Why didn't he talk to Iris? She would have told him what he already knew. She has already moved him into the past. She noticed as she might not have before the baby, that compared to her, he was a baby too. She had neither the time nor the desire to raise him as well.

You are right about her moving him into her past. I'm glad you're getting into this story. Gretchen

Bro-time. Very important. And helpful for us to see where Jameson is in the scope of Reality. He seems so naive and unprotected in relation to the onslaught that is headed his way. Hopefully, Bryon can help him navigate these tumultuous waters.

Bryon definitely opened his eyes. Thank you for this. Gretchen

Ain't much sense going fishing if you don't take the right bait. It's sort of like going bear hunting with a switch from a tree, or gator hunting with a sling shot. Thanks for sharing.

Okay, Gretchen. A nice transition to the story with the sole focus on Jameson. That's good because he had his story to tell. But I'm gathering there's going to be a relationship between him and iris (friendly not sexual) so I think they both should be in each chapter. At least a mention of the other.

Simply my thoughts...

John

You were the second person to mention that. I have since done that in the following chapters. Thank you for the help. Always welcome and always appreciated. Gretchen

This is starting to develop more texture, at least with Jameson's narrative, especially now that you've brought his son into the dynamic of Jameson's life ... and now with Byron to bounce his problems off. When it's Iris's "day off" it might be worth trying to keep her in a small corner of his thoughts ... and vice versa.

Thanks, Jay. I know you're right but I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to put it in there. Up for suggestions. Lol. Thanks for sticking with this. Is it confusing the way I'm doing it? Let me know what you think. Gretchen

Wouldn't have to be anything specific. Just a random memory from a past meeting. And it wouldn't have to be every time, just enough to show there is connectivity between them. At least that's my thought.

I remember something I heard a little while ago, someone said, we just fall "out of love." But what I know these days, one doesn't fall out of love, they simply start looking at the green grass next door. But I think that a covenant, or a promise can discarded like a piece of trash. Love is something one does, with the possible exception of violence, but not fall into, or out of, .beautifully written my friend, blessings Roy

I agree. I think if it's real, love never goes away. I guess you and I are lucky like that. We have each found our true loves. Thanks so much for this. Gretchen

Jameson seems like a good guy. My heart goes out to him. Thank you for sharing.

There is no warm goodbye, just a clipped "see you this weekend." (comma after 'clipped')

He answers on the second ring. "Hey, Jameson, how are you doing?" (comma after 'ring')

The brother-in-law who lost the sister doesn't sound like someone with much advice, but it is good for Jamison to have someone to talk to. At least Claire suggests she's confused and didn't just start haranguing him for being who he is, a nice guy.

I think Jameson is trying to get Bryons perspective on it. Probably not advice. And he's lonely. Thanks so much for this. Gretchen

I held his[him] against my chest
Jameson is looking for a little hope. He is devastated. He needs to find a way out of his present situation. Maybe his former brother-in-law can shed some light on the problem because he has just gone through the same thing. Well done Gretchen. Nancy:)

Thanks so much. I really appreciate this review. And your comments are spot on about his reasons for calling his brother in law. Gretchen

We are learning more about Jameson here and this reminds me of a friend of mine in the Canaries who married a woman from Eastern Europe and when the marriage failed she wanted to take their son with her and leave the country and he would never have seen him again. Fortunately he was able to stop her from taking him through the courts and he is still involved in his life. Divorce is difficult on kids, they are confused and it is heartbreaking for them. A realistic and well written story, love Dolly x

Thank you, Dolly. I've never been in a spot where I thought I might lose my kids. That must be terrible. Thankfully your friend was wise enough to hire an attorney. Gretchen
