Your poem intrigues me. I'm not Catholic, the closest associations I can pull are what I've seen in movies or on TV. I find myself turning your poem over in my head getting from sacred to secular.

This is a very good poem. I, too, am a lapsed Catholic. I had a problem with a priest finding my parents and telling them what I had confessed. I don't remember what my sin was, but it wasn't anything that warranted my parents being involved. I was about ten and I haven't been to confession since. In college, I thought I had found a new church family, but when a student in CCD ran through the lobby, running directly into my 7 month pregnant belly and nearly knocking me down, I yelled at him and was chastised by the priest. Instead of reprimanding the kid, he stood there in front of everyone and read me the riot act, citing my reaction as being completely unreasonable. I no longer deal with organized religion. Best of luck.

We cannot be forced into religion, we must feel faith within our hearts and then we can appreciate it and embrace it, but everyone should have the choice, a poignant write, love Dolly x

A unique and vivid write about how the colors of the candles have meaning for you. The sacred and the secular symbolized by candles... I can tell it means something to you... why don't you visit again and see if it still holds true :). Good luck.

Thanks Melissa! I really appreciate the feedback and I'm glad you enjoyed the imagery. As far as visiting again, for me, the context and the meaning have changed. The building for me is not as important as living by the ideals so, in a way, I carry the building with me wherever I go.

I appreciate the review, thanks again!
