Lol! I don't think Bob Hope's singing was that bad. I love your description of the blue jay's squawks. My favorite lines were:
"Their call is both severe and sincere,
a jeer that shears off the last edge of silence,"
I love all your bird writings! Best wishes in the contest!

Thank you for your super review. I liked Bob Hope's singing. It wasn't considered his best talent, though, since comedy took first place.

The author's words are engaging, descriptive and creative. The poem
flows and connects well. It also give many facts about the Blue Jay
which were interesting to read. Thank you for the author notes - they
were also educating. The artwork goes well with the theme and words of this poem. Hope you had a great day!....Maria

Excellent entry for the Free Verse Poem contest, about Blue Jay birds.

The free verse is not forced and flows well.

the structure makes sense, it draws on emotions and it presents strong images.

"Poetry heals the wounds inflicted by reason" -- Novalis

Great alliteration of W and B....

"whistle, whirr, or whine."

"Blue jays believe in heaven,
since they've been blessed"

"Blue jays believe in heaven,
since they've been blessed"

etc....

I didn't know Blue jays are violent with other birds

They sound like they have a bit of a "bossy-boots" attitude, and their sounds harsh and not very heavenly. Yet they are attractive to look at. Your informative and well written poem was enjoyable to read and learn from.

I learned much here about this particular bird. It was intriguing to read how they might act tough as a hawk. I've noted how we have black birds, smaller than hawks trying to get into the Robin nests or eggs. Saw a mother robin chasing one away. I think the learning aspect was what kept my attention, but the poem itself was nice.

They can sound just like a hawk but are bullies to the smaller birds. They take control of my bird feeders when I let them. Thanks for sharing your talent.

Thank you for your super review, and the personal experience added as well. Haven't had bird feeder in back yard for years due to cats now in the family.

This is a really great creator's pause imagination and what places do you have makes for a freely magical write!
Blue jays and stellar jays very interesting and smart birds which love the dark blue colors that some of them get.
Very lovely picture you chose too!
Your writing style is very unique I catch it my eye from the first line.
I find no grammatical issues and it's extremely eccentrically pleasing unique with fine work choices from a large vocabulary!
I wouldn't change a thing about this plan. I think it's a fine submission. Definitely worthy of this contest good luck to you have a great evening!

You are so right that blue jays are similar to mockingbirds. I only thought of that after researching quite a while. Thank you for your super generous review.

As much as the blue jay will sing a song of six pence, I do know one thing, I just got done cleaning poo off my patio's cement which several fly overs left. It was a mess! If I could relate to this poem kindly, I would. Many great characteristics about the blue jay but evidently, they can be mean.

Thank you for your super review. Wild birds can definitely be messy. Even those solar-powered owls don't keep them away entirely.

I enjoyed this poem about the Bluejay very much. When I think of Blue Jays, I think of kind of an angry bird, but they are a lovely bird to look at. You have done a beautiful job with this poem. I enjoyed it very much.. Patricia
