This is a great post about the importance of being available to visit and be visited and how much of a difference children and young people can make in the lives of those who are older. I like hearing about the veterans receiving a salute as well. This reminds me if I ever have children, we ought to make a goal of doing musical shows at nursing homes. Well, so much for the future. Thanks for sharing!

Crystal, I thank you for the awesome review and such kind words for my Goober🥴 story! ..and yes, it is amazing now that the kids grown up also just know that respect for veterans and our flag.
Just nothing more precious than children!
I appreciate it so much! Thank you again, my dear friend.

Hi Debi, I pray you get to
feeling better real soon. This
is such a heartfelt write that
is so warm and positive. The
photo of your beloved
grandson at 5 is precious.
He sounds like a comedic
joy. Visiting the veterans at
the VA hospital with your
kids, then grandkids is very
moving. Sweet friend, get to
feeling better. In friendship
and in Christ, Regina. :)
p.s. Best wishes for contest

I've said a prayer for you Debi, but you're absolutely correct about grandkids, they do remove stress quite considerably. They had a show on local TV recently, about 4 year olds relating to aging folk in a retirement village, most ol folk were lonely and had no one to visit, but the wonderful chemistry from young to old was Amazing it gave the old folk such a boost. Our grands are such a blessing, Well done, blessings Roy

Oh sis, I am so sorry to hear you have been infected with this lousy bug. I truly wish it would go away, along with all other sicknesses. Let em tell you, I have the great pleasure of holding my great grandkids in my lap, talking to them, making them laugh. On in particular EJ, 2 1/2 years old, comes into my office looking for treats I always keep on hand. He speaks, "Hey grandpa." with his lopsided grin. I will give him a cookie, which he quickly gobbles up, I then give him a couple more and send him on his way. His 7 month old sister gives me so much joy at the big old smile she always gives me. I think I may just look funny to her. I have vitiligo and many kids on seeing me, look confused and somewhat amused. I pray God will quickly heal you and return you to the land of the reasonably healthy FS family.

I hope you get well soon and are feeling better. Sorry, you got Covid.
I love the story. While I do not have any kids (or even grandchildren.) I know how they can light up the face of those with little or no visitors. I used to volunteer in a nursing home and see the remarkable change in the patient's physical appearance when someone brought in children.
Good luck in the contest with this heartwarming story.
Best wishes,
Mary

A lively story and a laugh out loud picture of the goober. Being around little ones is a cure for the doldrums. They say and do such funny things. Great ending. Sorry to hear you have health problems again. Good luck in the contest.

When my girls were little we used to go together every Sunday to the "Old Folks Home." There we would visit our adopted grandmothers. From the very beginning we would ask to be paired with a resident who had no family of her own, and we would become that family. I don't honestly know who felt more joy during our visits. It blessed our family immeasurably.

Sorry about the covid test. Bur your day sounded like lots of fun. I know how you feel about grandchildren. They can ward off a storm or depression like nothing else. I used to go with my mother in law to a nursing home. There are many lonely people there. Sad that some don't get visitors. Great story. Gretchen

Debi, A wonderful entry for this contest. Good luck. Zoe and I never got the front end of the equation that would result in grandkids, but I have had many friends like you extoll the virtues of them. Your story is very well written, and you have your usual personal touch to bring it home for your reader. Exceptional. Terry.

Thanks so much Terry. I appreciate it so much. I just put this in my authors notes.....
I am just adding this note at 11:30 AM, Sunday. I just figured out part of why I was so off yesterday. Early evening I became sick, was running a temp. We have covid tests and I finally took one just a little bit ago and I have Covid. I am sure that did not help at all, but I had no idea I was sick, because I lupus acts like that too. So not all of it was from me missing my grandkids or Goober, but I know he did make me happy and I thought that was the whole reason. Lol.... Ooops now I better call his mom and dad to tell them. Not a good way for his last week of school to go down.
