Oh, congratulations on your win, Debbie. This poem is lovely, with its alliterations in all three lines, in praise of the honeybee. It hits all the right notes, and the picture is perfect.

Congrats, again!

Congratulations on the win! I read this and loved it...even got in my vote, but did not have the time, then, to review it properly. Love the gentle touch of alliteration in lines one and two...and appreciate the light you are shining on the importance of the honeybee!

Debbie,

Obviously, many other FanStorians applauded this post. Your selected artwork is a perfect complement to your eloquently written verse.

I like your intentional or not alliteration that you sprinkled throughout your 5-7-5 lines.

And, I greatly appreciate your educational lesson you shared in your note. My guess is that the ancient wasp was not a small creature as the bee is now.

Sadly, our toxic environment causes havoc with the (bee) fertilization of our plants and crops.

CONGRATULATIONS... :-). I can see why this won first place.
Simple title, great picture, impactful write and very much appreciated author notes. Very informative. I did wonder how a new queen is selected after Queen bee dies. Bees - truly amazing.

"Usually, the workers find eggs or larvae less than three days old and house them in specially constructed, vertically-hanging "queen cells." The fertilized eggs take about three days to hatch. They feed the larvae royal jelly. They pupate in the cells after about six days of rapid growth. About eight days later, the new queen bees emerge, take nuptial flights, mate in the air with the drones or male bees and try to kill other virgin queens. The last remaining queen bee then begins to lay eggs. The process from queen loss to egg stage takes about 29 days." Thank you so much for your kind rating and your thoughtful comments. These ancient little friends just keep on giving, don't they? Best wishes Debbie

The drown.in the picture looks as if it may be the Italian Bee. He is quite a worker. I studied these creatures and found them to be an interesting subject. You did well with this poem. Best to you in the contest.

Thank you so much, Ben, for your kind rating and informative comments. Bit confused by the second word. Do you mean drone? Because this would be a worker bee. Thanks again. Debbie

Yes. Sorry for the misspelled word. I have trouble seeing at my age.

Congratulations on winning the contest! I love your first line, honeybees as farmers. They are amazing insects, and I love to hear them in my garden. The honeybees particularly like the strawberry blossoms this time of year. Thanks for sharing your lovely poem, and again, congratulations.

This 5-7-5, Honey Bee, has the proper formatting and recognizes the honeybee and other likely pollinators for their contribution towards the world's vegetation success. Yay bees!

Aww, I love honey bees! I had a friend who used to pick them up and pet them and carry them to flowers. Cute poem that follows the prompt beautifully. ~Heather
