Well, Ron, I darn near choked on my English muffin this morning as I read your exceptionally well-crafted humorous sonnet.
Who knew such sibling rivalry existed? :)
What a hoot.
Not only does your sonnet showcase your poetic ability to pen a most-worthy sonnet, it also showcases your delightful humor! Props!!!!

Congratulations on a most-deserved win!
Congratulations on making this dark Tuesday smile for me!

Hey, Diane, hello. Thank you so much for the fantastic review and giant sixer. Yeah, I had this idea in my head for a while but I never did anything with it. When this contest came along, I actually looked up to see if William had any siblings. The odds of his brother being named Gilbert was just pure luck. Lol. I just had to after that. It was amazing how many entries made it in the contest even though they were no where close to being a sonnet. I couldn't believe it but what did I expect seeing as what this site lets fly as far as rules? Haha. I'm glad it brightened your day a little, D. Thank you again for the big sixer. Have a great rest of your day as well and I'll gab with you next time.

I love this poem! Talk about sibling rivalry, the Shakespeare brothers might have had it in spades. I mean, who wouldn't envy William? Good luck in the contest.

Thank you so much for the great review and big sixer, Mary. I'm glad to see you jumped on as a fan. I write a lot of silliness on here. I really appreciate the gracious stars and good luck wishes. I'm glad you liked this ridiculous piece.
    Thank you again.

I really did like it! It's creative and gives an altogether different perspective than one might anticipate. I don't think it's ridiculous, I think it's splendid. We all need a good laugh once in a while.

Methinks you whine too much, for Gilbert is
A name that bears nobility and fizz.
if only you'd supported William's star,
You would not be the lonely soul you are!

Nicely constructed sonnet with plenty of rhyming gems and great meter as well as fertile imagination. This should do well in the contest!

This is absolutely brilliant. Sharp, witty and humorous as hell. So, William's unknown brother has surfaced who claimed that the great and mighty William has stolen his limelight (lol).

It has a lot of little finds which make it a delight to read and review. A true Shakespearean flair with a blend of humor and satire.

Good luck in the contest.

Thank you so much for the fantastic review and big sixer, Yelena. I was thinking about writing something like this a while back but trying to make it some sort of acrostic at the same time but that never happened. At that time I didn't know William actually had a brother. Then to top it off with his name being Gilbert. Lol. I'm glad you caught the little things I threw in there. Thank you again, Yelena. I'm glad you liked this silliness.

It should win. You could have called the brother Harry (lol).

Hahaha... I love your poem so much. It's very funny. I like this one a lot.... "Yes, fancy pants can write his metered rhyme,
while I, the one with talent fades in time." LoL

I don't write rhyme and meter poems, it's too analytical for my taste.

I can relate to the poor memory.

This definitely fits the bill for a humorous sonnet. I love the enjambment between Lines 3 and 4. It's just pure genius!!!! It definitely has 14 lines of iambic pentameter with the ABAB CDCD EFEF GG rhyme scheme. It seems perhaps there's a volta with the ending couplet revealing his resignation to anonymity. Although this poem made me realize that William had a brother! And now I will never forget him.

Lol. Yeah, Gilbert Shakespeare will be a hard one to forget, that's for sure. Haha. Thank you so much for the great review and huge sixer, Aiona. Plus, I'm glad you saw the enjambment as being on purpose. I doubt many folks caught on to that. I dearly appreciate the gracious rating. I'm glad you liked this silly piece. Have yourself a wonderful weekend and thank you again.

This is certainly funny although part of me feels a bit sorry for Gilbert with his brother envy. The rhyming is good apart from 'think-ing' which is a bit of a cheat and I love the whole idea of the thing. The rhythm is good throughout as well so good luck with it

Thank you for the great review, Eleri. The 'think-ing' was intentional. To make it seem like his brother is right about his writing. Lol. I really appreciate the generous stars and good luck wishes. I'm glad you liked this silly piece.

This is a good entry. I think the notes help those who may have wondered if there was any backstory to this. Sibling rivalries is a topic many people could relate to. Good work on the form and very creative.
