I do not understand the last line. How about:
Lotus persevere. Just saying that the last line sounds as if you are chastizing them. Are am I not understanding your meaning?
I do enjoy your writing. Karen

Thank you for explaining the term "lotus eaters" as I didn't know it. Now your poem about the "sloth" makes sense. I heard the legend that when Buddha was a child, the places where his footsteps fell a lotus flower bloomed. I would think Buddhists have a special love for this flower.

In Homer's Odysseus Ulysses and his mates was blown off course by winds and their ship landed in a place of lotus eaters where everyone is in a semi drugged state.. because they eat lotus !
Tennyson also has written a poem 'lotus eaters'.
for such a spiritually important flower and being a symbol for remaining unaffected by the negativity of ones surroundings, I felt the term is unfair...
Hugs Santha.

I agree with you!

Hmmm. I'd never heard that term... It certainly seems out of kilter with such a Zen flower... Is this term from Greek mythology?
I'll have to research it!

Hello there, my friend. Very interesting and true, never really thought of the waters they grow in as muck. Although, I can affirm I've never seen a real lotus. They are very beautiful, I love them as well. I do believe in their spiritual significance.
Nicely done!, Good luck!
In upstate NY, "The Muck" is an onion field. lol.

Hi Santha,
Yes, the lotus seem to appear on lily pads with no sees of roots seen.
They are beautiful where beauty in needs. Does the last linGooe mean they take a long time to appear?
Keep writing and stay healthy
Good luck in the contest.

thank you very much,Joan. Lotus have very long stems and their roots are embedded in the muck of the waterbody. The leaves and flowers float . They are symbols of being unaffected by the negative surroundings. In spite of its origin in the dirt it struggles up to be a beautiful flower..
Thanks once again for dropping by.

You are most kindly welcome, Santha.

Enjoyed reading your work. I am drawn to the short forms of poetry that do not rhyme. Very good entry for the contest. You fulfilled all the requirements and then gave us an unusual word picture and interesting information. elaine

Good post on a particularly less known flower. There is a metaphor about lotus as it goes, whenever we find beauty springing off from the dirt or mud....
I believe there's eight syllables in the second line....

Yes it is a symbol of struggle and shining in spite of the dirt from which it originates...
I am not sure two people have pointed out the 8 syllables. I think 'flowers' is the problem word..Thank you very much.

Interesting third line. I haven't heard that expression over here. The flower is a beautiful one despite its environment. You're written a thoughtful and meaningful poem. Very best wishes.

Thank you very much .The expression comes from the Greek classic 'Odyssey where the hero Ulysses' ship was blown off course by wind and they land in the country of Lotus Eaters..
