A miracle indeed and your I admire your choice of the word 'lottery' to describe both the inherent danger and potential glory of the pupal stage of the butterfly.
Good luck in the contest with this wee gem. May it hatch into something beautiful.

Thank you for sharing this writing prompt entry with us. I'm not quite sure why it's not on the poetry side, but I enjoyed reading. Yes, it is a lottery when metaphor this happens.

This is a really creative entry for the challenge Debbie! Regretfully I only have five stars to give. I think the title is clever and the words you use are very clever. I like anything that turns prospective upside down, cuz I feel you've done in your poem. Excellent Exceptional Writing! :) Alex

This is an excellent 5-7-5 poem. What a perilous position this cacoon is in. The poor butterful may never get the chance to fly. Nature's lottery is great way to put it. What a gamble. Nature can seem cruel.

You did a great job, Debbie. I liked the contrast
in your words. You gave readers much to think about.
Which way will this event end? I liked the way line
2 and 3 used words that began with 't' and 'e'.
The picture was a perfect addition.
Thanks for sharing, Jan

You have used the literary technique of alliteration. With the t's it makes the suggestion of a tut tut, tsk or a clock ticking. There is a strong example of juxtaposition which carries the meaning of the poem.

Excellent. What a great comparison. The caterpillars' cocoon does look like a death trap. But what emerges is so beautiful. nice alliteration with triumphant and tragic.

Hi Niki, could I just enquire about 'good' rating? Was there anything I should improve and, if so, possibly, get it moved up? Many thanks for your feedback.
Thank you Niki. Much appreciated.
Comment from Mario PIERRE
That's very true. I would venture to say that it's more often tragic than successful. Even at hatching, only 1-4% of the eggs become butterflies. We humans are using so much pesticides, nature takes its part, predators the rest...the result is grim.
Thanks for sharing this piece for reflection!!

I love this short form work. It captures one of the great things that happens in nature, in a sense the demise of one thing, giving way to the creation of new life. Beautifully wrutten, blessings Roy
