You completely wrapped me up in this story. When it began with the tomatoes, I wondered how you could ever think of such a creative beginning. As the story progressed it gave me a warm and fuzzy feeling of joy as Rosemary and David married. Then POW! David was a creep after all. Great story. I enjoyed it. Best wishes in the contest.

Lol . I would never have thought of the tomatoes but I saw this actually happen on Saturday between an old lady going in the train to a concert , and the young man next to her. It was an icebreaker and they chatted and conversed for the rest of the trip. They then parted ways, but my imagination took over from there - and the rest is fiction. Lol. I am so glad you enjoyed it, and also got a shock at the end. Thanks for a super review.

This is a very good story. Those red tomatoes are quite the conversational piece. I will think of your story every time I slice a tomato for the BLT sandwich. You are such a good story teller. Best of luck in your writing.

This was a very captivating and interesting story. It kept me interested all the way until that twist at the end! I definitely didn't expect him to be a conman after all that. Thank you for sharing, and best wishes to you.

This was an awesome story. Turned out terribly, though, but sadly that is the way of the world now. Isn't it amazing how ideas for stories and poems come from the simplest moments? Best of luck!

Oh no! I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop and suspected that sweet David really was a con man after all. But he certainly fooled everyone, and I wonder if it really was his nanna who lived in that retirement home! But what's the story about the red tomatoes?

I was in a train recently heading to a concert, and saw this exchange between an elderly lady and a young man, who then continued to enjoy each other's company for the rest of the trip - but then went their separate ways. So this strange situation with the tomatoes really happened and inspired the rest of the story, which is fictional so his Nanna was just made up to suit the context. Lol. Thanks so much for a super review.

I remembered your concert post and so I felt there was some reality woven in here. By the way, did they fix that seating problem?

Yes, finally. They phoned up a couple of times to try and sort it out. They sent another complete set of tickets in the end. The right ones. Apparently the concert we went to previously was not on our list (which was ordered six months ago) and we offered to pay for it but they refused because it was their error. Lol. Saturday?s concert was wonderful. You have a wonderful memory. Hugs.

Hello Wendy,
Well, that was a bit of a shocker. I was thinking that four months wasn't very long to get to know someone before marriage, and I guess I was right. However, they seemed to be hitting it off so well. Honestly, I 'm curious about what happened to the the tomatoes. I love real tomatoes, not the green house ones. If I had sat down beside them, and no one else had claimed them, I'd have taken them home and sliced them up with salt and pepper. Thanks for sharing gal.

Thank you - and yes, you are right, and Rosey should have trusted her initial gut instinct. The story started in my mind when I saw, on a train, an older lady ask a young man to move his tomatoes, and he said they weren't his. They chatted and laughed for the rest of the train trip - and then went their separate ways. She was obvously heading towards the concert hall. Then my imagination took over. Lol. Thanks for a super review.

Thank you very much Teri! Sorry about the ending. It started out with a happy ending, but I thought it was too tame and sweet. Lol.

Ouch! ouch! and the reader had even begun to trust this 'nice guy'- well told - a slice of potential real life perhaps - it's difficult to tell these days- thanks for telling us this cautionary tale.

Once a conman always a conman... the gift of gab, a sweet smile, and politeness to win someone's trust. Then when all is said and done... whoosh..... the rug gets pulled from under their feet.

Great contest entry, Wendy. Best of luck!
John
