What a twist at the end, and what a great story! The line about the witch in the Wizard of Oz etc, was funny. I could just imagine me, packing my bags and leaving if I had to live with that monster-in-law! It was very much reality and I love these kind of stories that you can envisage taking place.

LOL, who knew this contest would reveal a nonfiction story this funny? Oh my, absolutely a great story and a well-written setup for the ending. Thank you for entering the contest, and good luck. Very well done. Terry.

Oh my goodness, Debi!
Haha! I thoroughly enjoyed this piece, from the intrusive Mother-in-Law to the housewarming to you answering the phone in the buff, unaware of your husband's overnight guests. The fact that the call was a wrong number was the icing on the cake. So well written and well told. I loved it! Best, JohnC

A so well-written story that carries the reader's interest from the troll of a mother-in-law to the embarrassing telephone scene. I have to hand it to Glenn; at such a young age, he stood up to the troll, put you first, and kept his promise to get you out of there.
While years later, you and your friends laugh about it, as a young bride, I bet you were mortified.
Best wishes,
Mary

Oh Mary, I was truly mortified and it took me a long time to face these guys again. It was even hard for them to face me after, as it really was an innocent mistake, but I love that we get some cool stories for years later anyway. Lol..
I thank you for the awesome review. I really appreciate all your kind words also for the very generous gift of six stars! You have no idea what they all mean to me, dear friend.

You have told the story well. How embarrassing it must have been for you, and I am sure that you were blushing even as you wrote this. I really enjoyed the first part of your story, sympathizing with you having to live with in-laws. That is something I never had to face and I am thankful.
Happy Mother's Day, Debi.

Hello my sweet friend. That is a part of my life that was not one I enjoy looking back on for either reason. I added that part because it is a part of what made me who I am and living with an in-law who was so mean, made me vow to be the best in-law I could be, and it worked; I now have two son and one daughter in-loves and they love me. So I believe God lets us go thru things as to learn and bless someone else with what we learn. And I am thankful those drinking days lasted only a short while until I gave up the part time Christianity and was born again. (And put pajamas on when you sleep. Lol) Thanks my sweet friend and a Happy Mother's Day to you!

That was so funny!! Oh you poor thing, what did your newly wed husband think? lol! How embarrassing, I bet you couldn't look them in the eye again for quite while. That was such a good story for the contest, Debs, I really laughed my socks off. Good luck in the contest!! Love and hugs, Sandra xx

Sandra, I think Glen wanted to laugh but he tried hard not to because he could see how very embarrassed I was. However aren't those just the best ones to tell that many years later, because those are the ones we still remember? I thank you for the awesome review of my phone story. A fun write, well structured from the start with focus on the telephone. I enjoyed the pace of it and the description of the friction with Mother-in-law. Also, the ending was unpredictable for all but the last part of the lead-up to it. Great entry for the contest. Good luck! Debbie

This is kind of an anti-mother's day story, lol!

The firefighter part - my mother used to tell me to always change my underwear in case I was in a car accident and the doctors found soiled panties. Even then I considered that they would have more important things to worry about!

Well, Glen's friends were probably itching for another party in the near future after that, lol! The entertainment was great:-)

A funny story, Debi - thanks for sharing. Hope you do well in the contest.

xx
Pam
