Oh My God!!! I would have been mortified! It's a good thing that you were all able to turn it into a humorous story and remain friends. As for your mother-in-law, I'm glad you learned to love her. When Dillon lived with my mother for a bit (as an adult), she would go in to "clean" his room, but really she was going through his stuff. I afford him as much privacy as possible. Best of luck!

Oh Monica I thank you so much ~Someone once told me that without embarrassing moments we lived a boring life. Then I told them that story and they said but you aren't one of them. Lol..Sounds like your mom could cross the lines some too, huh. But I'm sure she was much nicer than my m-i-l.
I didn't even do that to my teenage kids!😊
Thanks for the awesome review my friend.

Ha, ha, ha, very good, very cute. The days of being young and foolish!
I'm glad that you moved. Your MIL had a boundary issue. I was just talking about "boundary" issues and MIL's yesterday. BTW, I never had a MIL. She died young. Great writing. I could see the whole scene, especially your MIL going into your bedroom. Of special note:

My new husband did tell his meddlesome mother to stay out of our room when we were not there; that what she did was an invasion of privacy. However, she maintained it was their home

(Oh, those old rules--my house, my rules.)

Great photo of a real telephone. Something that will not be recognized in the not too distant future. As this is a contest entry, I wish you good luck. Xo. M

We still have our red one and beige ones from the walls. My grandkids think they are so cool. Thank you for your sweet words, awesome review and your six stars which are such an honor, sis. The reason I said you could relate is because of Kelly?s mil? Or one of the other kids?
Thank you again so very much!

What a terrific story that includes the "Wicked Witch", fun new digs which were nicely available when needed, and a surrender of all secrets when the bell rand at dawn. Funny.

Hey Bill, first of all I want to tell you happy birthday for yesterday. I was going to write you a poem but since I kinda did last year, I thought I would give you at least a year break from them. Anyway I do hope you had a great one.

I thank you for the awesome review of my phone story. I really appreciate all your kind words. And I really appreciated the gift of six stars. You have no idea what they all mean to me, dear friend.

This story was fun to read. It's a trip through cringe, to indignation, to embarrassment that keeps the reader alert and interested. The ending would have been horrifying at the time, but I'm glad you have gotten over that and are able to laugh now. The pacing in the story is great, and I hope you do well in the contest.

I bet your story will echo several other readers' story: "We had been married six months and never had any privacy except in the little bedroom upstairs that was his as a kid." This creates a gallows chuckle here. Oooof: "What if there had been a fire and the firefighters would have seen this? What would they have thought?"
This was a precious account. Thank you for your vulnerability.

Wow! My first thought was that you had not only the gift of words , but also a great imagination. Then I read your notes. If nothing else, the experience made you a great mother-in-law. Great story!

True God has a purpose for all things that happen in our lives
You have a bag of anecdotes, each one unforgettable in its own way .What an experience and embarassment !
You are really great that you didnt let the resentment grow within you
Your mom in law reminded me of my mother! She was expert in pointing out what I didnt do!

This is a funny story, but I'm sure you were totally embarrassed. I'm glad you could laugh at it later. I'm glad your mother-in-law realized later that you are a lovely person. One small suggestion: He insisted that we have a little (remove 'house') housewarming party. Best wishes in the contest.

Hi Carol, I thank you for the awesome review of my phone story. I really appreciate all your kind words. Thank you also for the very generous gift of six stars! You have no idea what they all mean to me, dear friend.
PS- just out of curiosity, are they not called housewarming parties where you are? I'm always interested because it might be just a MN thing, but I have no problem removing it if you think it would sound better that way. Thanks so much for the great feedback.
reply by Carol Clark2 on 15-May-2023
Yes, they're called housewarming parties everywhere I've lived, but your story says 'house housewarming.' I was suggesting removing the first 'house.' Sorry for the confusion in my suggestion. Great story!

You do a great job of giving us the background for the story and saving that wonderful twist for the end. Oh, that phone call is a memory that will stand out for all those involved for a lifetime.
Thanks for sharing this hilarious and embarrassing story.
I hope you do well in the contest.
