Excellent poem about memorial day and a personification of a dead soldier speaking from the beyond, what one would say if he or she was alive. It's a great poem to honor our veterans on memorial day.

The rhymes and meter are not forced and they flow well.

the structure makes sense, it draws on emotions and it presents strong images.

This is a very moving poem about a man who died in combat, giving his life for the freedom of the folks back home. A more honorable death there isn't.

This reminds me of those residing in the cemetery in the play, "Our Town," reminiscing about their lives in the town as if they are still able to communicate. This is very well done.

This is a very well written Memorial Day poem you have penned and was observed from the grave. You used very good descriptive words that seem like ones that a soldier that is in a grave would say! Best wishes in the contest. love and blessings, Teri

A most unusual point of view makes this poem a standout. I very much enjoyed the precise and consistent meter and rhyme and the message is patriotic and moving, as well as alarming in the final verses. Very well done and a great entry in this contest. I suspect it will do quite well.

very powerful and moving poem about memorial day and what it means to remember those who paid the ultimate price for the security and liberty of us all. I like the last lines the best

But what it is I mostly fear
Is some May day, some future year,
I'll not be wakened by some band,
And freedom will have left this land.

Hi,
You could almost march to this poem of rhyming sestets. It flows smoothly. I like that it is from the viewpoint of the fallen soldier. He shows how proud he and we are of our nation and those who fought and died for our freedom. I think that lately a lot of us are sadly wondering about how long our freedom will last and all past wars were fought in vain.
Keep writing and stay healthy.
Good luck in the contest.
Joan

    My pleasure.
I think we should have more holidays to honor those who fight and die for us.

I must admit the reasons for war are never good, we try to idealise them but really it's about those that have fallen in pursuit of a dream that doesn't really exist. Beautifully written my friend, this is very deserving of an excellently outstanding rating, well done, great rhyming and narrative, blessings Roy

Thanks, Roy. When I was younger, I always looked forward to playing in the marching band on Memorial Day.

What an awesome tribute to a band of brothers in arms, who willingly gave their all. Fallen brothers who made it possible for a group of greedy, lying, sneaking, conniving imposters who spit on their contributions. Traitors who openly wear tee shirts that say they would rather be communists than belong to a political party that has existed in this country for years. Traitors that would willingly disrespectfully invade our nation's capitol in pursuit of the unlawful actions in favor of another traitor.

This is a very well-written poem for the Memorial Day contest, good luck. One line struck me...Slain in Vain. Not so for this soldier. He didn't die in vain. He preserved freedom. The question you raise so well is, will we continue to do so? Exceptional. Terry.
