thanks for sharing this delightful account of your "good day". I admire you and Sunny for being involved in this ministry. I appreciate your description of Sunny: " He is a dog, not a human child, and he has always been treated like a dog - a much loved dog, but nevertheless a dog."

Thank you Anne. Most of the other therapy dogs are frequently dressed up for different occasions. Somehow it makes me uncomfortable, as if it demeans the dog to being merely play things or ornaments. Maybe just me. Thanks again.

You are welcome. I agree with you, dogs were not meant to wear clothes. God covered them with fur.

It is wonderful that you and your dog can enjoy bringing joy to those having cancer treatments. Having a warm pet there lavishing you with attention has to be one of the best medicines for those being treated. Very well-written article.

Thank you very much Carol. Yes, the people do enjoy it, as do the pets, and so do we, watching their interactions. Lovely review. Thank you.

Wow, what a great service! Animals (especially dogs) really are remarkable. This was interesting and focused. Thanks for the read and give Sunny a pat for me!

What a wonderful story. I have had the pleasure of meeting two therapy dogs at the pharmacy. Winston, a shih tsu. And prince a chihuahua. Both were sweet little gentlemen. I remember talking at length to Winston's owner about the training. Quite rigorous but it's understandable. This was very interesting. Gretchen

Thank you Gretchen. Yes, the training does need to be rigorous, and they do need to be capable of relating to all sorts of people (including the people who are not so gentle) as well as all sorts of other dogs in the team. They actually find it quite exhausting, and need to sleep for a while afterwards. There's a lot of sensory stimuli for them to process.

This story made ME feel warm and fuzzy. It is amazing how Sunny had the natural temperament, willingness, and intellect to learn how to become a therapy dog so quickly. Now he's going to be a lead dog. I look forward to finding out how one dog trains another dog. What originally made you decide to put Sunny in training?

Thank you for a super review, much appreciated. I seized the opportunity because it suited his placid and people- focussed personality. It is very rare for me to go anywhere without him drawing people to him like a magnet.
He makes everyone happy. It was a thing we could do together and he loves going out with me. Hates being left at home. So it suited us both.

A beautiful, uplifting story. Dogs do so much to comfort and lift the spirits of patients. Sunny is remarkable and quickly became the lead dog after observing Tia and Zsa Zsa.
You are a generous, caring person to give these patients joy.
Best wishes,
Mary

This is a great story Wendy. I love reading about the exploits of the dear little companion dogs. What a good idea to put them in prams! It's wonderful how animals can sense the condition of people and behave accordingly. I had a horse like that once. Stay well, Julie x
Hey, I just noticed that you're the No. 1 author now. Well Done!

I never cease to be amazed at the intelligence, intuition and understanding of these dogs, and how willing and able they are to offer comfort. Thanks for a wonderful review. So glad you enjoyed it. (Thanks too for the congratulations. It's probably only temporary, but I'll enjoy it while it lasts! Lol.)

Hooray for Sunny! I guess he takes after you in his desire to serve. What a blessing he is! Thanks for sharing how Sunny is living up to his calling to help those who are in need of a little love and comfort.
I wish my dad could have had a doggy visit. He loved dogs - they were the only ones who could readily forgive and be his constant companion.

I do believe God led me to find him, and led us into this service, and I pray it will be fruitful. Your father would have loved Sunny. Sunny understands and accepts everyone, and would definitely have given a lot of love and comfort to your father. Thanks s o much for a lovely review.

I can see this happening. When my husband was in memory care, the dogs visited every three months. Moving descriptions of how the dogs and the patients showed their love for one another. Interesting that Sunny could recognize other working therapy dogs.

Thank you Patricia. I think there is a huge need for Therapy Dogs. They do such a good job, with elderly people, lonely people, those who are ill, with children who have emotional or behavioural difficulties.... Part of the training is that the dogs all know each other and get along well. Even taking seven dogs together at one time is never a problem when they are all placid. It's actually quite wonderful to watch them greeting each other every week. Like long-lost friends. They are all sizes and many different breeds. Yet they all know and care for each other, and after we finish we go and have a coffee, and the dogs all lie down together on their rugs at our feet - and fall asleep. It's tiring for them with a lot of sensory stimuli and different people handling them.

Why did you call me Patricia? Appreciate the extra info in your reply, but the name is Shari aka Spitfire.

Sorry, I have no idea why! Put it down to old age. I really do know your name!

I enjoy your posts about Sunny. The visit to the cancer center with all the dogs involved was the highlight for all those receiving treatment.

My favorite part:

he stretched himself full-length along her legs, offering her the comfort of his body from the tip of his nose to his tail,

Two out of the three dogs we have, do that and love their tummy tickled.

Thanks for posting!
John
