That must have been exciting to do. Horses are very large and can be intimidating. I remember once I was at an urgent care and a woman came in. She thought her leg was broken (it was) and she explained that a horse was playing and accidently kicked her. Very cool job and extra cool poem. Gretchen

Oh, does this resonate with me. I have been around horses for such a big part of my life. I was not into race horses as dressage was my thing. But, believe it or not, one of of best dressage horse was a stallion thoroughbred. Yes, you heard me right. But dressage or racing horse, the training and being around them is such a pleasure. I loved your poem. Ulla:)))

I enjoyed your notes about your colorful background in racing and love how you carry it forward in your poetry. So who should I be placing a wager on next Saturday? :-)

Your writing and word choices give this poem a "racing" pace that is hard to deny, particularly when reading it out loud! I enjoyed your poem...and appreciate your author's notes, as well. I always tune in to watch The Kentucky Derby. You've given me a new frame of context!

So swift behooves
For equine ones

Great choice of words for this rhyming poems about the Kentucky Derby. Yes, I imagine the winner is considered the "world's best", as this is the most famous horse race in the world!

Are you going next weekend?

What part of Indiana were you born in? I'm from Lebanon, and still have a brother and sister there, but haven't lived there in 64 years.

Great poem:-)

Thanks! dear lady! I was raised in New Albany but I was born in Corydon Indiana. My mother and I, out of all 16 kids were the only ones born in Corydon, and my dad was born in English Indiana. I probably will stay home. That Derby is a ticking time bomb for about anything that could possibly happen. I will be at my brother's home in Palmyra Indiana at his Derby Party, barbecuing and doing some fishing, and staying away from that traffic. Have a great Derby week and thank you very much for your review!

This poem, The Kentucky Derby, gives a short but accurate accounting of what occurs when thoroughbred champions are set to the task of besting one another on the track.
I was going to add critique on the punctuation you used, but see it as style rather than something needed edit.
