You have opened my eyes with your recipes, John. I love grilled cheese on toast, but the way we have it in the UK, is just toast one side of the bread, turn it over and put thick slices of cheese on the untoasted side and put it back under the grill to melt. And that is it! I love them. But now I will have to start being a bit more creative. I'll try some of your recipes. I do enjoy all your food posts. So for todays lunch I shall have.....hmm, I'll look in my pantry to see what I can experiment with!! Well done, my friend. :))Sandra xxx

Hi John,
sorry I've been missing, but what a tasty way to return?

National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day... what a day!

I love the thought, as I ate so many different grilled cheese combo's earlier in my food journey, but now I don't eat much of any cooked cheese apart from the odd homemade Pizza and even then I take the Feta option. That doesn't stop me from salivating on the thought of all the lip-smacking combo's you have so generously shared, I just don't do it anymore. I have to choose my battles... well, my treats.

I went through your reviews, (which I don't usually do,) but I wanted to see just how many sixes you pulled out of us hungry bunch. I've gotta tell you, only two exceptionals out of this many reviews... what the?
Like, did they read what I read? Was their mouths watering like mine? Hmmmmmm?

I may not eat too much of it these days, but I still respect Cheese in all of its form... and I appreciate your homage to this table and food staple... outstanding my friend, outstanding!

With our thoughts we create...
the magic of addictive necessity.

Kind regards,
James.

    Hey, Jim!
Who doesn?t like a grill cheese sandwich of any variety?

I enjoy writing when food is the topic. I?m no chef. Some tinker with cars, I enjoy putting around with foods and flavors.

Thanks for stopping by. It?s always a pleasure to hear from you!
Have a great Sunday (though yours is nearly over, mine is early still).

I never thought I would be reviewing a grilled cheese sandwich! but here I am now thinking of, wishing for a gooey grilled cheese sandwich. I like your advice shred the cheese as mine usually end up burnt on the outside and cold on the inside.
Well done!

Well a week ago they had Fish Fingers and Custard day, so I think I prefer grilled Cheese Day by quite a decent margin!

I enjoyed your enthusiastic embrace of this staple food. I like the food too - mostly because it is dead easy to create and as you point out you can vary it to suit your taste. What a great solution to the 'can't be bothered to cook tonight' dilemma.

Have a great weekend. What's for dinner?

Steve

There's a whole DAY dedicated to Grilled Cheese? I'm always the last to know! Many are the times I cooked what I thought was a fairly "fancy" meal for my kids (then grandkids) only to be met with "Why can't we have Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup!?)

Must admit, I've never tried shredding...but I've added ham, thinly sliced tomato...and on occasion tuna and mayonnaise-- all of which have been hits (and therefore staples) in my home.

It's imperative to dunk that first "point" of the sandwich into the Tomato Soup--something about that first bite and the delish combo of flavors sets the tone for the rest of the heavenly meal!

Oh, man. I know what we're having for dinner tonight!

Your enthusiasm for grilled cheese is commendable. My family are purists. Velveeta (if that is really a cheese) on white bread. Tried to change it up by using King's Hawaiian bread. No deal. Your suggestions sound wonderful to me. Think I'll copy some of them and use them when I'm the only one to feed.

Grilled cheese is an all time favorite at our house too. It's the only thing my husband has ever learned to make but he is a master at it. Even now when the grandkids come, they ask for his famous grilled cheese.
Thanks for sharing. You have some variations we haven't tried.
Blessings
J

Now you've gone and done it. I delayed reading and reviewing this post as I feared and rightly so, I am craving said sandwich so much so, that I now have to go and make one. As soon as I do, I will be besieged by requests from the rest of the family to make them one as well. (Heavy sigh.)

I'll bet you haven't tried adding this ingredient but I have and I really liked it. I added chopped toasted English walnuts. All of ;your standwich's sound good. You always have some excellent food tips.
