Hehehe ... Great entry for the Humorous 50 Word Story writing prompt contest.
The story grabbed my interest. The dialogue is believable and has a funny ending.
Good luck

I enjoyed the notes as much as the story. You have to love the honesty of children. I'm betting the ice cream man laughed at this. Best of luck in your entry.

Perfect title... BUSTED!
How innocent little kids are and how embarrassing they can sometimes make it for us adults at times.
Good luck in the contest.

Hah-ha-ha. When I was a kid my dad took us to a pricey Steak House. (This was a mistake)--
We were not prepared to be the sweet-mannered stoic children and I fear he regretted his idea halfway through.
ANYWAY-- I could barely eat half of my "Filet Mignon" and thus, when my dad asked for a "Doggie Bag" I was thrilled!
"Oh my GOSH! We're getting a DOG?" I said in my best Ethel merman stage voice!
(He was not amused)
THIS is hysterical.
Kids are honest! They've yet to learn those shady grey areas of kinda-fibs.
Great fifty-word story!
I do not have ESP....but my vibes tell me this one will be super popular!

Yup! Every parent has been there. This such a cute story and kudos to your brevity. Often authors are guilty of stringing a story along longer than it needs to be.

I am as always in awe of a writer who can convey a story in so few words. You got right to the point, no words wasted. Also, I loved the point of the story and how it speaks to the reader. I smiled and adored the honesty of the child. I was also able to relate to the chagrin of the father, so the story did a good job of characterizing both people. Lovely. Good luck in the contest.

The little girl let the cat out of the bag so speak here. Toddlers do speak their mind so your tale is true to life. It is humorous and gives the reader a laugh. Best wishes for the contest.

My, how articulate your three-year-old was. Or perhaps "pushy salesman" was a phrase she learned from her daddy. It's good that he's teaching her to avoid pressure sales! Best wishes in the contest!

Thanks Helen. This is a true story and I remember it like it was yesterday, even tho I wasn't home, I thought my husband would be mad when he told me, but he thought it was good that she said what he didn't. And yes, we have our share of pushy and spooky so we don't like going to the door for everyone. Although in this case he came every two weeks, no matter how much I ordered, he tried to sell me more. And if you just answer and say no, he will find a way to keep you talking with him. If you don't answer and he knows you are home, he'll keep knocking. So we would hide. Hahaha!
Do you have Schwans in Washington? Anyway tho, this was 40+years ago and our oldest still gets teased to this day about some of the funny things she shared. And we still get Schwans but on my terms. Lol...

Many would be guilty of hiding in the back room from pushy salesmen, including me. Kids are very honest. Best wishes for your entry in the contest.

Very well done on this humorous story. Children can be so honest, they speak what they see. I am sure that she heard her dad say this when they knew a salesman was at the door.

Yes, she did and also when I got home from work I would ask how their day was, and sometimes she would say why does he keep asking us why we want more and more? And we told her that is why we don't want to answer the door to pushy salesmen if we didn't want anything. Lol, she just didn't think twice cause she never heard her dad tell a lie before. But this was 40 years ago, and we still laugh about it. Thanks so much my dear Anne.
