A beautiful poem and a wonderful message. If only all parents believed in the same ideals. While uplifting and encouraging your poem saddens me reflecting on my own childhood experiences. Oh well, you can't have it all! As they say. I enjoyed the read Tom. Jacqueline

But WE survived.
I had a sterner challenge with five sisters and no supporting brothers.

Children became what we taught them and will become what we leave them, this is an excellent read, so many messages in your story for us to read, if we could unite all the children it would be a much better world, very well written****kahpot

How do we reunite the lost kids, abandoned for a needle of coke or a jigger of rye? Children of drunken parents unfortunately have a tendency of becoming an alcoholic themselves.

My wife and I are giving a talk/preach on 'Legacy' at our church next month, and of course, we raised our kids in the bosom and the nurture of the family, with Christ in the centre, and despite our stumbling and playing it by ear, (children are uniquely different from one another) it seems that it was successful, with the grandchildren, already showing, despite their youth, a beauty of something akin to the butterfly, well done Tom, , blessings Roy

Well, as we all know, those scriptures are referring to those taught properly coming home to Christ when all is said and done. But most will stray from time to time along the way before coming back to what they know. Thanks for sharing.

to what they know or should know or will know in the afterlife.

Great philosophical thoughts about children and their place in our lives. Certainly these questions are important to ask. Did we, as a generation, fail our children?
Great post!!

Some did, some not so. Amazing how pets are often more loved than the kids we birth. Mine are now in their thirties, and are fine as they are, but I wonder how could I have made them better?

I can see the simularity of lilies in a fertile field that is nurished by rain and sunshine and children who have the nurishment and care they need. Yes, as parents is our responsibility to give children the encouragement and knowledge and love they need to grow into mature adults. It is sad, that many children are left to fend for themselves by people who should have never been parents.

and yet, in our world where half the marriages end in divorce, mandating the surviving spouse has to work outside the house to survive, the road is strewn with potholes to accomplish what a single-parent home would like to have be theirs.

This photo- word picture read presents as a rhizome rich deeply
rooted in the scriptures delight. I must relate this to a special movie of my musing, Lillies of the Field.
All together-- AMEN, AMEN,AMEN.

Poitier was brilliant in the story. It deserves to be retrieved from the archives and shown on teevee to prove that Hollywood, once upon a time, produced more than today's fluff.

I so agree with your post Tom, children need to be nurtured and cared for if they are to be well adjusted adults. I adored my kids growing up and today they are amazing adult people and I am proud of them. I cannot imagine neglecting a child and I know it happens, they are such innocent beings. A fine post Tom, much enjoyed, love Dolly x

From out of the swill, I call my mind, thoughts are continuously swirling about, so my readers never know what it is 'he' is going to write next. Thanks for your time and comments.

Nice prayer to/ for the forces of good.
Well accepted by those who do good.
And ignored by those who don't.
There is a civil war of minds in Israel now between those who brought up their children to seek control and impose their way of interpreting God's will.
And those who brought up their children to seek freedom and respect choice.
My father did not survive the holocost to bring up free children in a free country .
To have his grandchildren subjected to a Jewish Iranian orthodox regime where women will be hauled away to correctio camps if they walk around in short sleeves, etc...
This is not attack on your poem. Which is beautiful. Just me pissed off with the orthodox. :-))Z.

Say it loud and say it proud. How can history inch closer to being repeated?
Comment from Wendy G
Your words are right - and parents have a huge responsibility to care for and protect them, and nourish and nurture them - then children will bloom into responsible and caring adults. Unfortunately many parents can't, won't or don't fulfil their responsibilities to "weed the soil of their environment", provide supporive stakes, yes, and "train them up in the way they should go". Parenting classes should be obligatory - or perhaps offered by churches so that those who want to learn how to be wise parents can do so.

The choice is between letting government teach alternate lifestyles, regardless how minor the agenda may be, or letting the pure in heart with good ill intent teach them to love unconditionally but not egregiously to gain a vote. Spot on W.G.
