Debi,
My kids, aged 40, 37, 35 (go ahead, I know what you're thinking, this guys an old fart) were probably one of the last age groups that "went out to play"! We even had to force them otherwise they would freeze in front of the Nintendo Mario Brothers....

Oh how I wish for the days as when I was growing up. It was soooo much better.

Fantastic poem which spelled it all out. Good flow and rhymes. Best wishes in the contest.
John

Well done on this, Debi. I too am concerned about young people with their phones and tablets, not paying attention much to anything else. Hope you do well in the contest.

That reminds me that I have to go out more, take a nice walk. Everything you've said in your lovely, well written poem, is true. We writers can be as guilty as the children. Writing is addictive but we must draw a line under how many hours we are allow ourselves. Not easy, but worth trying in order to save the rest of our body. Well done again, Debi. :)) Sandra xxx

I have one daughter who rarely leaves her room. She works from home on computer, plays games on computer and does art work from computer. It's hard to get her to step outside some days. Your poem struck home with me. Thank you for posting. Gretchen

You're so right about this, Debi. It's such a shame that seems to be the direction that so many kids are going these days. Adults too, for that matter.

This was well-written, and I liked the rhyme scheme used for it.

Incidentally, I find myself having to stand more and more as I write to relieve my sciatica! Jim

I used to write everything in a notebook, but now I sit in front of my computer. Yes, I do need to get up! What a wonderfully written poem. I wish I had a six for you.

Good luck in the contest!
Have a great day, and God bless.

I am with you on your theme here. I think you did a great job too underscoring it with this machine like rhythm of hammering short lines. We would all be better off without Facebook, Twitter or Snap. All these platforms do is spread gossip, rumor, slander and heresay and facilitate crimes. People hide behind the anonymity of the persona and BS like there is no tomorrow. Sites like this, focused on creative endevours, are OK but I have little or no time for the rest of the internet. Give me face to face anytime. Check out the poems I am posting that will become my next book, Artificial Intelligence. estory

Estory, Y'know I used to do all of these, but for one thing, have no time any more. I spend way too much time just writing but at least with the people that I want to be with. thank you so much!!

This poem fits the syllable and rhyme requirements nicely. I know many people voice concern about technology's hold on people. I have indulged in online friendships more recently, as all my friends are either working moms, or going back to school to change careers, and we can never seem to coordinate in-person visits. But I have a child of my own, and I wouldn't trade his hugs for all the online friends in the world. You're right: online life can only do so much.

I agree with you whole-heartedly. While the internet has been a blessing in some regards, I believe it has as much destructive force as a nuclear bomb--its fall out is just much more subtle.

This has become a real problem that is causing many young people to lose the ability to communicate. All they know how to do is touch screens and text. Forget face to face conversation. Thank you for highlighting this in a skillfully crafted minute poem
