Another great story. By the third strike, and the fact that Bobby kept reading books, I knew he would have a great outcome. But, I didn't expect how great, even though I read Bobby stood before an array of colors. "Batter up, Mr. President," was a surprising and satisfying ending.

This story started out so upsetting, but it ended on such a high note. I am glad things worked out for Bobby. Thank you so much for sharing, and best wishes to you.

Wow! That's definitely up step up from 'batter up.'
Well written from beginning to end (which I didn't see coming.)
I was busy recollecting my own failures with the baseball bat. Ha,ha.
Some people wait a lifetime for success and die failures- but not Bobby.
Thoroughly enjoyable.
Blessings
Shirley

Great story here. I must admit I don't know if it is based on a true event or not, but in my heart I want it to be. You describe well the atmosphere on the field and the feelings and running thoughts of the young batter. We feel for him as he is ridiculed on and off the field. But, head held high, he chooses the better game and succeeds. Well done!

Just a story of someone ridiculed who ultimately came out on top!
    Thank you, Ginda.

Great story John. I have 3 grandson. Two of them are very athletic and very successful. The third one could be Bobby. He did not excel at any sport he tried. But as an adult- he shines.

Well done
Blessings

-Good artwork and great story, John.
-You capture the nature of this game and
Bobby's difficulties at the plate.
-People can be very cruel at these games meant for kids,
even their own parents.
-It is so easy for them to belittle someone else,
but Bobby stuck it out and did the best he could.
-I like the paragraph when he opens the book,
and the ending is priceless!!!
-Well done. I enjoyed reading it.

Looks like Bobby pushed the peer pressure to the side and concentrated on talents he did have on other areas. Now he has become the best he can be and they cheer him for what he is.
This is a great story for children, and for all of us really. If you don't succeed in one thing, try another until you find what you are good at and what you love to do.

You did a great job with your story, John. I enjoyed reading it.
Your words were descriptive--I could see Bobby's time at bat.
When one wants something so bad, and it doesn't happen, some
give up. It didn't help Bobby the way others failed to support him.
However, it made him a stronger person as he became an adult.
I believe lallgagging is spelled lollygagging.
Thanks for sharing, Jan

Now you have hailed the concept of flash to perfection! This is much better than the one I read just the other day, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. If you wanted to hone your skills just for the fun of it, you could fiddle around shortening it, but you're ready now to tackle those pesky 100 / 150 etc word contests for that purpose. kay

Wow. What a great review. You?re so encouraging. Thank you!
    Six stars to boot!

The 6 stars was easily deserved. The review could have been more positive probably. If you want to read another good flash (short version), there's one by Tpa up on page 1 if you've not seen it.

The one of the gun and the wheelchair? I did read it and was amazed at what went through my head as I read it. And only 80 words.
    It was a good post.
reply by Katherine M. (k-11) on 18-Mar-2023
yes. And 80 words is really hard for a flash. It was quite something. k

For many sports defines them, but it shouldn't. There are many other areas someone can shine in. It's too bad we, as a society, puts so much emphasis on sports. I enjoyed reading. Thank you for sharing.

"Strike... two." The umpire yelled. (comma after 'two' and lower case 't' on 'the')
