I enjoyed this wildlife story. In the U.S. we say that Australia is the only continent that is fully intent on killing you somehow the minute you step off the plane. I watched Steve Irwin to know about the snakes. Lol. Yet it looks beautiful (landscape wise). Thank you for posting and good luck in the contest. Gretchen

Thank you Gretchen. Wonderful review, and I appreciate the six stars. Very valued. But - we have strict gun control, so there are no concerns there, and most of the time we have no problems with nature! Lol. Thanks again.

I've been to Australia a few times and travelled extensively around your country. Yes, I've seen a few kangaroo and they are truly amazing. I do remember the deadly blue jellyfish, and the netting in the water so would be able to go swimming.
I so enjoyed your piece on the wildlife. You wrote a wonderful narrative, but I missed the koala. Where is he? All the best of luck, Ulla:)))

Wow, this was a delightful and educational post! At first, I thought you were just going to scare us away from Australia with all those dangerous beasties! This seems to be mostly about kangaroos but everyone's favorite is the koala. I remember the story about the one that ended up in a Christmas tree.
I can't remember if you knew JudyE as she often wrote about kangaroos on her property. She's moved now to Treeby.

Thanks for this wonderful post about Australian wildlife and hope this does well in the contest!

The koala may feature in his own piece one of these days! Don't be scared - we have few wildlife problems, especially if we leave them alone. I would be much more scared of guns in the US! Thank you for a super review.

Your story is very well written, Wendy. I appreciate the time and effort you put into this, describing the different wildlife in Australia. We all hear about Kangaroos, but you have certainly given us a lot of information about them. The picture you have chosen is very effective. Often in a crossword puzzle, I get the clue "name of baby Kangaroo" and the correct answer is "joey."

Ah, then you will have the first answer correct! Thank you so much for the exceptinal review and six stars. That really means a lot to me. Thank you for noticing the effort as well - it did take a while to prepare and polish.

What a wonderfully entertaining dose of Australiana for my morning reading! I enjoyed this immensely - well written, engaging, informative - as well as providing many memory triggers with my own experiences of wildlife, especially on my 2-year motorbike trip throughout Oz a few years ago. I love kangaroos as long as they stay off the road. I've also eaten 'kanga bangers'... the meat is too lean - a sausage needs some grease in it. At my high school in north Canberra the roos came down off the mountain reserve and were often on our playing fields.

Thank you very much. I am so glad you enjoyed it. As an Aussie, you are exempt from the quiz, as you probably know all the answers! Kangaroo steaks are good- but they mustn't be overcooked. Glad it brought back some memories for you.

How interesting! Unusual wildlife when compared with ours here in the U.S. Before I read this, I never thought keeping a kangaroo as a pet would be the wise thing to do. Now, I definitely know it's now. I didn't know they were eaten. You're right - it's a big contradictory to eat your national symbol.

Thank you for a wonderful review, always appreciated - and yes, we have a lot of very "different" animals here. Love it.

After treading the first part of your piece, Wendy, I think I will stay in the U. S. Your section on he kangaroo was most interesting. Looking forward to the answers to your questions.

Don't be scared. If one leaves the wildlife alone, there is never a problem. I would be more scared in the US with all the guns. Here I can walk within a metre of a (red-belliedblack) snake asleep in its nest, and be assurd it will not attack if not provoked. Sunny and I used to go past one regularly, and I would just keep an eye out for him.Thank you for a great review.

Most of the zoos I frequent have kangaroos. Your story educated me about them, I know very little about them. I was unaware they are eaten for food. I did know they do not make good pets and was unaware that here in the US they are kept as pets. I enjoy reading about wild life in different countries and Australia has its share of fascinating creatures. I also like the koala bear and have watched shows about the Tasmanian tiger.

Thank you for a super review. Greatly appreciated! I think I will write a piece about the koala one of these days - they too are quite fascinating.

I read somewhere that the most poisonous on earth live in Australia. I don't know if it's true or not. I enjoyed reading and thank you for sharing. A few years ago, my son told me about the Great Emu War. I didn't believe it and had to research. I guess it's true.

It sounds like a joke, but the Great Emu War of Western Australia was real. Soldiers with machine guns were deployed to fight off the flightless birds.
What did the emus do to deserve armed combat? Western Australian farmers had been facing hard times with their crops following the Great Depression, and their difficulties increased tenfold with the arrival of some 20,000 emus migrating inland during their breeding season. The birds had been protected as a native species until 1922, but now that they were classified as "vermin," all bets were off.
The human soldiers fired their Lewis guns with vigor, but it was the emus that came out victorious in the Great Emu War of 1932. The birds remain plentiful in the areas outside of Perth to this day, and their triumph may be destined for the big screen.

I don't remember that story - I will have to look it up as it does sound fascinating. It would make a great movie. Thanks so much for reviewing. If we don't provoke our wildlife, we are generally safe. Many Aussies wouldn't have even seen a live crocodile outside a zoo. One would need to go thousands of kilometres to the north.

I am now more learning about the things in Australia. I really had no idea that a kangaroo would kill somebody if threatened. I learned so much about the kangaroo. The marsupial has my attention though, because they're so adorable, and so conveniently carry their children. I don't know if I'll ever get to go there and but I sure wish that I could. Maybe on my way out, the Lord will let me stop by for a look. A marvelous tour of your country and wildlife, dear Wendy.

Sending along my very best today as always, and my best for the contest ,Sally XOs

Well, don't postpone going to heaven to see them. I am sure God will have some up there, with all their wonderful features - but they won't be harmful! Lol. Thanks so much for your super review.
