I agree with you on enjoying the polar bears if they are behind a barrier of some sort. I wouldn't care to meet them out in the open either. Your story is interesting. I wish you the best in the contests.

    Hi prettybluebirds,
Thank you for sharing your thoughts on polar bears. I know, right, let me see them behind some sort of barrier. I don't want to be dinner for them. Thank you for the well wishes.
    Have a great day.

A very good story. I loved the history of the interaction between the man and the bear over the years. It is amazing how some are able to bond with wildlife, even dangerous predators such as the polar bear. Perhaps Dancer meeting Dennis as a cub and relating to him as a friend and not a threat was a determining factor in their relationship. Animals deserve so much more credit than we give them. Keep up the good work! - J.

    Hi J,
I think you are right about Dennis finding Dancer as a cub while he was still too young to have learned all his bear ways. They certainly had a spcial bond. I think animals understand far more than we do sometimes. Thank you for the encoragement.

This is and endearing story. I absolutely loved it. Now, I can understand that that you prefer to observe the polar bear from another angle. I wish you the best of luck. Ulla:)))

Hello Debi,
This is a wonderful story of a wildlife encounter that is uplifting, fun and
informative. I'm with you though, I'll enjoy the polar bears a bit more sedately, behind glass or on wildlife shows.

I suspect Dancers was an unusual bear. Perhaps the encounter when a cub
and memory allowed the bond to continue. I've seen shows where long lapses of time did not break the connection, one with a lion, another with a gorilla.

I like the way the story starts and ends with the same idea of liking polar bears, but from a safe distance. Dennis also may also have been very lucky.

Most enjoyable. Good luck in the contest.
Best wishes.
Robert

    Hi Robert,
Thank you for the generous six stars. I appreciate the insights about the relationship of the man and the bear. I'm sure meeting when the cub was so young was lucky., and he was certainly lucky that Dancer considered him such a good friend and not food. LOL. It sounds like this happens occasionally since you've heard similar stories with other species.
Thank you for the comments about the writing and what you liked. I appreciate the good luck wishes as well.
    Have a great day.

A wonderful story. Dennis was so fortunate to have this unusual relationship with a wild animal. All animals have to perception, empathy, and sympathy that many people credit them with. I'd like to have that experience, but I'd probably be too scared.

    Hi damommy,
Thank you for the encouragement and for your insights on the relationship of this man and his bear friend. I think you are right, animals are far more perceptive than we give then credit for. Like you, I think it sounds like a fun relationship, but I'd be too scared to try it.

I wish I had a 6 star left, Debi. This is a heartwarming story and you tell it so well. Dennis sounds like a wonderful human being who cares about wildlife and their habitat. What an amazing experience to bond with Dancer.

It was more amazing the Dancer approached the buggy after Dennis had been gone for 7 years, and that a group from South Africa were willing to help him with the project.

It was also touching that Dancer didn't want to be noticed by tourists and only showed up after they were gone. Then, he sensed that something was troubling Dennis and didn't make a sound, but was showing compassion for his friend.

I think I will remember this story, too. I'll try to look it up and maybe write a poem about it. It is so inspirational. Thanks for sharing it, and good luck in the contest.

    Hi Pam,
Oh, you are too kind. Thank you for the virtual six. I appreciate the insightful comments about Dennis and Dancer. I think Dennis was lucky to catch Dancer at such a young age and that worked to make the bond lasting.
Yes, I would love to read a poem by you about this unique situation. I left out a lot and I'm sure you could find something wonderful in their bond to write about.
Thank you for the good luck wishes.

You are welcome and deserving of the stars and review, Debi. I think you are right about him finding Dancer at an early age. Many people say animals don't have feelings, and that couldn't be farther from the truth. I tried to get Dennis's documentary, but I think it is only available in Canada.

You are welcome. I think Dennis doesn?t join until 5 minutes or more into the program, if that helps.

This is a very well told story about a man interacting with a bear. Polar bears are not known for their friendliness, but Dennis apparently aroused such an emotion in the little bear, and it lasted for many years. Well-edited and Dennis and the bear have unique personalities.

Hello, debi!
Once again you have entertained and captivated this reader.
What a delightful work of nonfiction.
I was enthralled by the information that you share with readers about Dennis and Dancer.
I have always felt a connection with birds and animals ... and they have reciprocated in kind. I've never met a polar bear, though = Bucket List!

Wishing I had six stars to affix on this exceptionally well-crafted work.

Best wishes,
diane

Wow! What a great story about Dennis and Dancer. Thank you so much for sharing it. Due to your descriptive abilities I became really engaged with this story. I really thought something terrible was going to happen to Dennis. I have read that if polar bears are starving they will eat their own young!

A well written, thoroughly enjoyable composition.

Jacqueline

Thank you so much for writing this. I love those videos where animals who were tended to by humans are really released into the wild. After a couple of years, they are reunited. The outcome isn't always happy, but most are. Good luck with this contest. Great story. Gretchen
