This is one of my favorite songs as well Janet. I used to always wear a smile. So many friends and acquaintances had remarked on the fact I was always smiling but it seems after my husband died all the joy went out of my life. Now the loss of Mark and Rhonda it is very difficult to remember to smile but I do believe in smiles. Good Medicine! Good job. Nað???ð???ð???ð??? Nancy:)

The author's words are lovely, sad, descriptive and creative. Life can be so tough at times. Thank you for the author's notes - especially the words for this song which I remember well. The author's words give an important message as stated in the last stanza. The artwork is lovely!

Great poem full of all kinds of emotions. I believe the strength of this piece is that you let the reader figure out the source of the poem's grief. Beautifully constructed and of course the presentation is too. The third stanza is my favorite.

This work has reached the exceptional level

-Nice artwork and presentation, Janet.
-Your notes are appreciated, and I like the song, too.
-A well written poem with effective imagery and rhyme.
-It flows well from verse to verse.
-I like the image "solemn cavalcade," and
you do a good job showing how a song or songs
can impact your feelings and mood.
-I think songs are a part of our DNA in a way;
they are like a prompt for us to release our feelings.
-I like your description of the guitar and the closing verse.
-Well done.

Thank you Pam for this stellar review and the exceptional rating.
I agree, songs are part of our DNA and often impact our feelings and mood. I liked that guitar reference. I tried to teach myself to play at one time. I was always pleased if I could strum a chord. (smile)

You are very welcome and deserving of the stars and review, Janet. I can relate to your guitar experience. I tried to learn myself, and took a few lessons, but it was only for my own listening pleasure!!

Janet, I must admit as I started reading your wonderful poem, my mind started playing Nat King Cole, and then I came to your note, and I, too, had to smile. By the way, your smile is better than the picture with the poem, and good luck in the contest. Terry.

Nat's version is a beauty on its own but as people understand what is being sung they will join in the reveille that life is good only because they have lived some bad, for the one would not be recognized without the other.

Thank you Tom for this very insightful review. You have hit the nail on the head. You have to experience some bad to appreciate and recognize the other.

Thanks, Janet for reminding me how much I love the lyrics to "smile" by Nate King Cole! I also love to smile for others as well as myself. It helps to bring the sun out on a grey dismal day. I love your rhyming poem and the rhymes are unique and moving. This speaks a message to all of us to keep smiling no matter what the day looks like. The sun will come up tomorrow!

A bitter-sweet poem. Memories can be two-edged - remembering happy times but also regretting their passing! The poem ends on a happier note. A smile is always worth keeping.

you shared a nice story with the reader. From the title I was anticipating something a bit more cheerful throughout the body of the work but then you bring the title into focus at the very end. Kind of a nice set-up.
