Gloomy days in Vermont & adjoining states are often SAD seasonal affective disorder. We become sun worshippers. We don't very often see what Native Americans calls 'grandfather sun'. Some even use what I call happy lights. I have a light bulb that I turn on to just look at in for a second. it changes our outlook, energy, ambition and outlook.

Oh Liz, I get it completely! I live in Minnesota, and my health depends on not getting stressed out. This year has been our snowiest this century so far. We have been dumped with 20 plus inches three times and lots of other smaller of only 4-10 inches it seems almost every day. My poor husband can barely keep up. I need light therapy in my life too, but wanna hear something weird, since I have been on FS, my winter blues, don't seem so bad. I think the second family we have that gives so much love therapy here is powerful. In fact I think I will write a story about that. Thanks for the idea, Sweetie! LOL
I just adore hearing from you and I so appreciate your lovely review for this poem. Thank you so very much my dear friend.

You do an excellent job of showcasing the dreary side and then the bright side of each situation. Those dreary times just seem to make the bright ones seem so much better. What a great motto to live by.
Best of luck in the contest.

-Beautiful artwork by your granddaughter and a nice presentation, Debi.
-Your notes are appreciated.
-You did a good job showing two sides of the picture with effective imagery and rhyme.
-The verse that stands out for me is the one about his child being hurt, and his marriage "was on the rocks."
-Most people experience both sides of life, and you show that when things are at their worst, " Then God and fam'ly should come first."
-I also agree about having priorities straight.
-A good entry; good luck.

I like your Merry-go-round form Debi, it reads smoothly. To look on the bright side in life is not always easy but it is a good thing to try to achieve. I enjoyed the form and the topic. Good luck in the contest. Cheers
Valda

"Always look on the bright side, the bright side of life."
These days there is not much happiness to look forward to. We live in anger and hate while the dark side is having a ball and we are suffering. BUT, look into a child's eyes and you will laugh and be happy. K xx

You my darling friend are so incredibly sweet. You nailed it with your last statement! Yes, children give us something to smile about, laugh with, love and a reason to go on. I know you have been thru some pretty rough times, but you are a beacon to others as I feel the same. If we weren't put here for any other reason, let us spread the joy of God.
Kay, I just love you to pieces and to 'peace's' and you are an Angel here on Earth! Thank you sweet friend for your lovely review and six stars, and so thankful also for the gift of your friendship!

First off, let me comment on the artwork -- FABULOUS! Art by Granddaughter, Kenzie (Coffee @ 1 PM) -- She is very talented.

Now, your poem -- FABULOUS! (LOL -- as a wordsmith, you'd think I could come up with another word, wouldn't you? Tongue firmly planted in cheek...)

LOL, Dawn. You remind me a little of Helen Reddy, so every once in a while when I see your review I start to sing Delta Dawn, but today I changed it to Deborah Dawn. Hehe, Thanks so much for the very kind review and comments my sweet friend.

My granddaughter did my art for the one I just did that I won second place on, Hauntings of past sins.
    She does a wonderful job.

Aww, shucks! (That's cuz it's not a real picture -- it's a cartoon likeness FROM a real picture that's old. Very old. Not telling you HOW old...Hahahaha!)

It doesn't matter because we all see the soul inside of each other. In some ways I feel we know each other better than some we see physically. For one thing, I no longer work so I love my time with my virtual friends and I normally only see my kids or grandkids and an occasional friend & way too many doctors. Some of them don't have one: lol, soul

I liked reading this poem. It was faith-based and down-to-earth. My favorite lines are: When things seem to be at their worst

Then God and fam'ly should come first
I also like the line: Don't underestimate a friend.
I hope I read it right that it doesn't refer just to human friends, but to a Divine Friend.

Very well done on this poem, Debi. Putting God first, will always help us to find joy even in the time of trials.
