You've created a very dystopian world. I agree that to many people who are irresponsible with guns have them. My father believed in taking each of us to the firing range and showing us the damage a gun can do. He had guns and didn't want us to ever think of them as toys. He also emphasised that every gun is loaded, whether it is or not, so don't point it anything unless you mean to use it. I chose not to have guns, but I respect them.
Good luck in the contest.

Thank you for your very nice review, though I'm afraid I am in a minority in this mix. Maybe if I'd made it a poem?????

Could work.
Your prose writing is excellent though.
I enjoyed reading it.

sir, I give you a 6 bacause I applaud your post. I am a grandmother who lives alone. There are illegals who have crossed our border and are in our city. Our crime rate is up and I don't think any of us are safe. I have a pistol that I keep by my bed. If they try to get into my house I hope I have the fortitude to shoot it. I took lessons out at the gun range, but my arthritus in my hands worries me.
Anyway, I think I have a right to possess a fire arm. I do not trust our gov't and I'm not sure about some of our police.
I'm entering this contest, too, but I think yours is good and I wish you luck.

Thank you for your very nice review.
My concern is with the open carry philosophy, immature youth (like Kyle Rittenhouse), certifiably crazy and dangerous felons with guns. Immigrants, legal or not, have not been the problem with respect to crime rates, it's more like home-grown gangs.
Thank you immensely for the six stars.

sir, I beg to differ with you. There have been many crimes by illegals, in the news all the time, but there are certainly people who should not be armed. What I'm concerned about is the possibility of (like in Australia) the powers that be taking away citizens's guns, disabling our ability to protect ourselves.

Taking away anything but military style weapons will NEVER happen. Not to worry.
-
I hope you're right. Have you read about the eventual goal of the World Economic Forum?

Conspiracy Theory - fear tactics.
They don't like Biden's buy American infrastructure rule, or Biden's build microchips in America, or America's defense of Ukraine

Living in a democratic country, which is not gun minded, where little thought, if any, has been given that protection is needed to carry a gun, and we read of the constant mass shootings in America, we become askance. The relative mindsets, (and that's what it is) are fascinating, we likewise have a frontier history. When Jesus said. "He who lives by the sword, will die by the sword" and that is being fulfilled. Beautifully written, blessings Roy

Thank you. And you are right, unfortunately about dying by the gun. Maybe the burden we bear for the manner in which we took the land in the first place?

Bless you

There is a big problem with guns in the US and I really don't know what the solution is and your story is powerful and scary here. The mix of corruption and firearms is a terrible combination, people shoot first and ask questions later. A fine write, love Dolly x

Thank you. I fear the problem is now beyond our ability to correct.

This is a scary story because it speaks to the fear that many of us have for the future. My brothers all served in the military. Every member of my family had guns for hunting when I grew up, even my mother. I didn't because I just borrowed my brother's for target practicing. I'm not against gun ownership. I'm against assault rifles and the easy access that anyone, mentally the mentally ill, have to them.
