Hi Brett,
This is so sad. It almost made me cry. Sean died before he could go on the rides he was looking so forward to ride. This must be a bittersweet memory for the grieving mother.
Keep writing and stay health.

This eighty-word flash fiction story, Birthday Bash, has the required word count and leaves the readers with a sad scene of the boy's ashes being sent on their way. Certainly a reminder that days are so very precious.

Way to tug on the heart-strings with the surprise ending. Now the mom can remember times past and only imagine how happy Sean would have been to ride the roller coaster, and how happy he would be on the Ferris wheel.

What a sad story and yet she tried to fulfill his dream. It is so hard to lose a child. Very well done 70-word story with a complete story from the child to his end.

A somber story that was enlightening in the beginning but turned sorrowful at the end. I am thinking that you were saying that he had gone to heaven's eternal gates.

This brings a sense of sadness to me. My sister's son was killed at age 8 in a motor vehicle accident. She struggled for many years before she was able to ground herself and function. I do not see any room for improvement. Have a blessed day.

Indeed, there can be some terrible accidents happen in fairgrounds, but the stringency of safety rules are quite strict. Beautifully written my Friend, good luck, blessings Roy

Wow, now that's a gut punch that I didn't see coming. But it's great writing as you always offer up. I just wish it had come earlier in the week when I could reward it properly. Thanks for sharing.

From the joy of mother and child, to the acute sadness a year later. That is the way of life, you just don't know what tomorrow will bring. I'm sure that little boy was enjoying the ride as his ashes were released. Very sad story, but very well written for just 80 words. Well done and good luck in the contest. :) Sandra xx

In eighty words you transported me from the joy of mother and son celebrating his birthday to the soul numbing sadness of a mom releasing her boy's ashes, weeping for the eternity of lost moments that stretch out ahead of her.

I have a lump in my throat, thinking of all the parents who have had to endure this grief...

Wow. Powerful stuff, Brett!
