I understand this. I had Greyhound driving days in the early sixties and I know the ropes and the stories. Yours are exciting too. Perhaps we can share some of them. Good one, Arkie.

I remember buying a 23 seater Mazda bus for touring with my gospel music and drama group, towing a covered-in trailer with equipment, and a large van towing a 6 berth caravan with annexe, the kids were young and talented, now the grandkids have inherited the giftedness. I loved reading this, my mum was 4'12" and grown boys trembled if they misbehaved in her presence. Good onya Yvonne, bless you Roy

Will fix that. I know that your mother made big boys tremble. It's all the way you get your bluff on them.

Exactly, mum thought she was invincible, and so did the h boys, heh heh

Hey, Yvonne. Your story was riveting. What tales you could tell. I wanted to ask if any of the children were hurt when the school bus hit the train. Just that pesky curiosity at work. But I can see why it would spook a good driver. I do think that when you described what your supervisor said to you that kept you driving, you might want to rewrite that sentence. "He asked if anyone would try harder, or be safer than I would be. Of course not." It just seemed to be worded oddly, and it's important that the reader understand what he meant.

Overall, though, Yvonne, this was quite a ride you took us on. By the way, you have a beautiful family standing behind you in your bio picture. Are they your children?

Children and grandchildren. Thank you for this wonderful review. In the bus wreck I read about, everyone was killed.

Very interesting account of your years as bus driver. I like that you were able to recall specific incidents. You seemed to know how to handle any situation that arose. I've read some scary accounts of incidents happening on the school buses recently, but times have changed. It surely wasn't fun driving in all kinds of weather. You would have to rub it in about being able to parallel park the bus! Where I live I-70 is a highway known for lots of accidents, so buses aren't even allowed to use it. Glad you enjoyed your work. That's important. judi

Thank you so much for this very nice review. I loved driving the bus when they had standard transmissions.

Your write is amazing Yvonne and you might be small, but your command over that bus and all who enter it is an achievement to be proud of. You took charge and everyone obeyed, I admire you Yvonne for you tenaciousness and fairness. You kept everyone safe and those children, teachers and parents should be grateful that you cared so much and that you had such high standards. I thoroughly enjoyed your post and shall look forward to the next one.

One small typo here:

. . . . year after reading (abouot) a school bus being . . . .

I wish I had a six for you, love Dolly x

I got that changed. Thank you for a wonderful review and compliments. It was a fun time, but they had to behave or else.

Wow, parallel parking a school bus sounds impossible! And being petite as you are to see that distance ahead and behind was also a challenge! I enjoyed your memories of your bus driver days. Thank you for teaching those students and caring about them and putting that father in his place!

Thank you a million times for your support and encouragement. I loved those years of driving, but they took the fun out when they went to automatic transmissions.

Oh my! You drove standard on top of it all and going down those hills!
By the way, our moms prayer group would always remember to pray for the bus drivers who had their special influence on the kids. 💖

That is so sweet that they prayed for the drivers.

We prayed for the crossing guard, too. When one of the moms told her, she teared up and said, "I always pray for others. I didn't know anyone prayed for me." 💕
