Excellent. Love how your poem flows, so sweet, so gentle, so soft, just what a child needs before they slumber into deep sleep and dream of good things. Thanks for sharing.

A song indeed, or maybe psalm, this soothing, gentle verse -- the internal and end rhyme are sublime, the imagery magical, the meter flawless. Congratulations on a richly-deserved win!

Hi Melissa,
This is a very soothing and relaxing poem. It does give the feel of rocking a baby to sleep in a rocking chair. That always had as much of a calming effect on me as it did on the child I was rocking. What a cute picture.
This poem could be one of the lullabies you whisper.
Congrats on winning the contest.
Keep writing and stay healthy

Congratulations on this outstanding win. I missed seeing it earlier, but wanted you to know it would have had my vote. I love this. It is about the sweetest lullaby poem I have ever read. Blessings.

I've come late to the party, but congratulations on the win! This poem is as precious as that image... Ah, for those days again! They grow up so very fast!

Hi Melissa,
A wonderful entry for the Children's Poetry contest!
It's so nice when a "sweet little one" sleeps through the night, but often they don't.
I have one suggestion for you,
"your eyes have closed half too." ... ( I suggest,
your eyes are half closed, too.)
My favorite lines,
"through waning light, we cuddle tight,
as Sandman sprinkles you
with fairy dust"
and,
"you sail to sleep, on shadows deep,
through lilac tinted skies"
Have you ever heard Gordon Lightfoot's song, "The Pony Man"?
https://youtu.be/_8LsxcV9Qz8
I especially like the 8 syllable lines with those inner rhymes.
These hours in the night, trying to coax a child back to sleep, are magical... as you know. You've got "fairy dust" sprinkled all around by the Sandman. And "you sail to sleep, on shadows deep,
through lilac tinted skies."
Nicely penned! Good Luck in the contest!
Hugs,
Kimbob

This is a great entry for the children's poem contest. When I read it in my head it was automatically spoken in a hushed voice... as if the baby were in front of me. I didn't want to wake it. The picture chosen also helped with that :-).
I particular liked the final stanza. Well done on a soothing children's poem.

You made me want my mommy, Melissa. :) How beautiful it was to be held by her as she rocked me to sleep. How many children did you have, if you don't mind me asking? This is a sweet and loving poem that wants me to curl up and sleep in your arms. This is a very good entry for the Children's poetry Contest. Thank you for sharing.

Hi Jose... I am privileged to have two sons and one granddaughter who recently turned 1 year old. My son and his daughter were on FaceTime with me yesterday and following that, I wrote the poem. It was a great inspiration to me. I'm so glad you liked it!!
