Wild horses have a beauty all their own. They're free as the wind and look so majestic. I'm glad your kindness rewards them with sweet treats! I would.

Dear June, Thank you for your review and the five stars. Chopped apple would be just the thing wouldn't it? cheers Bloop

They came like shadows [I like this line.] The poem was short but a great ode to these magnificent creatures. I liked the artwork of them as well. Great job!

Your illustration perfectly complements your text. The poem shows how faithful and forgiving animals can be. The poem is lyrical and has a delicate musicality!

Dear Sarah, Thank you for your review and the five stars. I met them on the beach in South Australia when I was a teenager, and I've never forgotten them cheers Bloop

This is an excellent tanka poem, your horses, sure-footed and confident, know the promise of reward awaits them. Lovely imagery. Good luck in the contest.

Dear Ginda, Thank you for your review and the five stars. The one time I met beach horses, my pockets were empty and they got nothing to eat from me. There's a smidgeon of poetic licence and wishful thinking in this piece. cheers Bloop

Nicely done. In eastern Washington heading over the Columbia, there is a mesa that rises some 80-100 feet. On top is a sculpture of a heard of horses. Your graphic reminded me of this artwork. Wonderful. Good luck in the contest.

Dear Kaiku, Thank you for your review and the five stars. I probably won't ever see the sculpture you speak of, but I'm sure it's beautiful. I wonder who created it. Someone with masses of talent. (BTW) you've spelt "heard" incorrectly. Lose the "a" and write "herd" for a correct spelling. cheers Bloop

Oops. Thanks. And thank you

Hello Cass. Like chopped apples they know I will not fail them. I love the title and the line above the title yet the last line I might suggest ending differently. I am not sure of the right way there is no right way but I would probably not end with the word 'them.' Otherwise, I love the subject matter and it is clear you love wild horses and I love all creatures great and small so keep up with your writing and I hope you win the contest.

Dear Jesse, Thank you for your review and the five stars. I do believe you've brought me good vibes. It stems from my response to your words about Cindy/ They were so generous and honest, so I responded in kind. For some reason this latest piece I've written has really hit an answering note among our readers with a most gratifying result.Coincidence?Iwonder!
cheers Bloop

I am so glad, Cass!
Whether it is a coincidence or not, I wish you all the best!

-Very nice image and presentation, Cass.
-Very good nature imagery in the opening lines.
-A good pivot line.
-A very good message in the closing lines
and comparison of the treats to "yesterday's chopped apple.
-The last line shows the bond you have with the horses
and vice versa.
-A good entry; good luck!

Dear Pam, Thank you for your review and the five stars. The one and only time I met beach horses was when I was a teenager in the 50s.I was employed at a nearby convalescent home for children and was walking along the sand dunes when we met. They were as shy as wild birds, but when they thought I might have something to eat on me or about my person, they ringed me around and stood there expectantly. Waiting. There were six of them. Their expressions and their eyes especially moved me profoundly, but when they realized I had nothing for them they peeled off and trotted away in a line. I did go back one day long after this, but I never saw them again. I left the bread and carrots on the beach near the water close to where we'd met before.
I lived in hope they found them before the tide came in. cheers Bloop

You are very welcome, and thanks for sharing what you did about the horses. It had to be wonderful being able to see them. I think it's good to think that they found them, too! Is Bloop your nickname? Have a good day.

You must love horses as well as all other animals. You must have a gift for interacting with animals. I enjoyed all the alliteration you used in this poem. Best wishes in the contest!

Dear Helen, Thank you for your review and the five stars. I haven't had anything to do with horses my whole life. This piece comes from a dimly remembered occasion in my (now far distant) youth when I met a group of wild horses in the sand dunes near to a childrens' home where I was employed.
I was trying to think up something for the Tanka contest when this just began to "go off" in my head. So, I went with it and now here we are. cheers Bloop

The author's words are engaging, descriptive and creative. The horses are beautiful and the author made clear her admiration for them. The poem flows and connects well. When I was in one of the Carolinas I saw a group of horses near the water and I will never forget it! Great Poem!

Dear Harmony 13, Thank you for your review and the five stars. ('Scuse me love,I'm a girl not a guy). It's been many years since I met these ponies on the beach in South Australia, but I've never forgotten them. Their faces, their eyes were amazingly human in expression, and I wanted to adopt all of them cheers Bloop

Hi Cass, Sorry I usually don't use he or
she in my reviews. But I seemed to
think Cass was a he! I recently changed
it to she! Have a great week!....Maria
