I've been to Rome and the Vatican several times and enjoyed reliving it with this account of your trip. How sad to hear about Joy and her ill-fated marriage. You and I are are lucky. We picked the right man first time around.

Thanks for a great review. I'm glad my story brought back memories. Joy didn't have a good life in spite of her parents and her husbands having a lot of money.

Stunning trip vividly detailed!
It wasn't long before [Francis=>Frances? (female version)] became our companion and choose to be with Joy and [I=>me] (be with ... me)

What a hard life Joy had. And you had way more than your share of troubles but it's much worse to have an alcoholic philandering spouse and alcoholic daughter. That's so hard.
Glad you could both enjoy Michelangelo's artwork together!

Thank you once again. Maybe I've written too much about problems because I don't feel I'm had more than most people. I've enjoyed my life. We all have problem. I wouldn't swap my life for Joys or most other people I know either. Thank you for again promoting my story.

Your story gives much detail about your trip. It is good to know what Italy looks like in many aspects. Did you enjoy Italy? So sorry your friend, Joy, had to go through such a difficult life.

Thank you Rosemary, I loved Italy. I wouldn't have swapped lives with Joy. She suffered a lot of heartbreak. We are still close. I just finished talking to her by phone.

Thank you for sharing this part of your memoirs with us. I've already mentioned that we traveled throughout Europe while stationed in Germany. It was like traveling from state to state here. I can't imagine being in Europe and not taking advantage of it.

Thank you Barbara, i apreciate the review. In a way I wished I'd met my husband before he was in service, but there was a war and I probably couldn't have been with him anyway. I would have been worried for his safety.

You did a great job sharing about your trip to Rome, Beth.
I enjoyed reading it. Also, I liked the info shared about Joy.
You and she may have had a lot in common at one time.
However, you seemed to have had the better of the lives
lived by both. Your marriage/family worked out better than
hers. I liked the descriptions of all the fascinating places and
things you went to and saw while in Rome.
Thanks for sharing, Jan

Oh, I love this, Beth, and of course I recognise everything, having been there so often. Now, I do hope you enjoyed Assisi.
It's so sad to hear about Joy's two bad marriages. I so enjoyed reading about it all though, because it describes what life is about. Ulla:)))

Thank you Ulla. Here a spoiler for you. We didn't get to go to Assisi. There was a earthquake there which pretty much destroyed everything we were supposed to see.

Sounds like you girls were having a great time seeing all the sights, but seems you would have probably been happier to just be at home. LOL. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you Ric. I had mixed feeling about going, but I don't regret it at all. I'm glad I didn't wait until my knees said "No!" We're not going to support this trip. LOL

How awful for your dear friend Joy Beth, but I'm glad you had this opportunity to make this trip together. The first time in Rome we booked online, but accommodation was a fair bit outside Rome, we caught the train in to the centre, the second time we stayed 100 yards from the Termini. We didn't get into St. Peter's, the queue was too long, but we visited that same church atop the Spanish steps, and, of course the coliseum, beautifully written my friend. Blessings Roy

Thank you Roy. I feel I had a much better life than Joy in spite of the fact she always had more money at her disposal. She has often said she wished she had found a man like Evan. I don't think she would have been attracted to him as I was. He was quiet and had simple tastes. She was attracted to outgoing and worldly men. In her later life, she is more impressed with Christians than she was then.
