A very touching poem, it made my heart shiver a little as under a warm and peaceful breeze. Reminiscence are most of the time a blend of the good, the sad and the wonderful.
You did a great job.

Yes, my wife and I share similar stories as we decorate our tree each year. More often, it's not so much about a particular ornament, it's the act of decorating itself - remembering the days when our kids were in the house and eagerly helping us decorate. Your poem beautifully captures the both the joy and melancholy.

What a beautiful tree! No wonder the muse moved you to pen such a fine bit of Tanka-Prose! I'm so sorry your son is estranged. We've a bit of that in our family too and no amount of "I'll Be Home for Christmas" stems the tide of tears.
I pray your dearest wish comes true. I hope he reads this! God acts in miraculous ways!

Oh, I can so identify with this wonderful poem. I have Christmas tree decorations which goes back a few generations. I'm soon to hand them over to my daughter so she can familiarise her daughter's with them.
Thanks for sharing this, and good luck. Ulla:)))

Oh, Janet! This is such a warming piece. The tree is beautiful, and I would imagine it more special to you as it is adorned with many good and some sad memories, but you display them nonetheless. Wonderful and warming. Happy Holidays! Best, JohnC

What I liked about your piece is that it picks up on one big theme of Christmas; that it connects us to memories and moments in the past. I definitely get this feeling myself when I look at the those old ornaments that come out of the box every year. They are like memories themselves, moments of the past that come to life on the tree. estory

Janet, you have written a wonderful poem for this contest, good luck. My wife and were together for forty-five years. She collected ornaments from all over the world also. At her peak, she put up six trees with a different theme for each one. I had a devil of time getting her to take them down, LOL. Excellent work. Terry.

Thanks for sharing the many moments you experienced over the years. It is a beautiful tree, and still, you emphasize the best gift of the season remains the reason for optimism.

This poem is beautiful and heartbreaking in the telling. I too, have many memories wrapped up in my ornaments that flood back every year at this time. I'm sorry to hear about your son distancing himself from you, but if you were to reach out, especially this time of year, it might make all the difference. Thank you for sharing. :)

Thank you for your kind and thoughtful review. "Memories flooding" is an excellent description of what I feel each year. My son loved Christmas but he has chosen not to celebrate the day. It?s been 27 years since I?ve seen him or his family which is heartbreaking. But, I write him once a month and pray a lot. We never know what might happen but thankfully God is still in control.
Merry Christmas
