I've often wondered at Christmas celebrations in warmer climates. Even thinking of Christmas in Florida or California seems strange to me. Your salad recipe does sound yummy. I think many regions in the US have a take on their holiday Christmas meal and most definitely for New Year's Day. I'm from Pennsylvania Dutch country, and we commonly have filling as a side, and no, it's not the same thing as stuffing. And shoo-fly pie is a staple for dessert.
If jellies is jello, what do Australians call jelly? Thanks for sharing, and good luck in the contest.

What you call "jelly" we call "jam".

Here jam and jelly are two separate things. Jelly is made from the juice of the fruit while jam is made from the fruit itself.
Shoo-fly pie isn't good unless it's wet bottom :)

I miss the heated traditions of the Aussie Christmas. I've lived in the US for seven years now and as beautiful as snow is you can't beat a Chrissy breakfast outside with crackers and those stupid hats. (No Christmas Crackers over here!!!) We always had a big breakfast with Dad's famous "non-alcoholic" punch. Thank you for bringing back memories of home. Merry Christmas to you and yours.

I've lived in the US for seven years now and as beautiful as snow is you can't beat a Chrissy breakfast outside with crackers and those stupid hats. (No Christmas Crackers over here!!!) We always had a big breakfast with Dad's famous "non-alcoholic" punch. Thank you for bringing back memories of home. Merry Christmas to you and yours.

Thank you for a great review. Love it. What - no Christmas crackers with corny riddles? No silly paper hats?! No little plastic ring? I didn?t think to include about crackers but then the explanation would be too long, and they wouldn?t "get" it. I?m so glad you enjoyed the story. Thanks so much for the six sparkling stars. Thanks so much Rosemary. Where I live we never have snow, but in the mountains about sixty kilometres away they do sometimes get a light sprinkling. The southern states are more likely to get snow particularly Tasmania. Australia is vast so there is quite a range of climate. Thank you for your review and your interest. Always appreciated.

However you celebrate and whoever you are the message of Christmas is to celebrate the birth of a great religion. Just as recently we all knew someone who was celebrating Dewali, I think the same thing applies to Christmas.

Your Christmas meals sound so much more light and refreshing compared to our heavily laden ones. I love to cook everything imaginable but seldom eat very much of it. My Christmas joy comes from feeding others... the more the merrier. Hope your holidays are very special, Wendy.

I must admit your menus sounds more healthful than our fat-laden U.S. Christmas (which I love!) I like that "happy" is expressed through color in your menu.
