It is true that neighborhood barbecues are a good place to gossip. These gossips must know that others are probably gossiping about them elsewhere in the yard. The women in the picture look more like high-schoolers than mother. But the food does look good. I think the shish kebab sticks are a good metaphor for what gossips do to their victims.
