Haha - this was such a fun poem. You have a terrific family. I hate to tell you, but many years ago my mother decided she was going to do something different for Thanksgiving. Would you believe, she made Chinese food, lol! And she wondered why I was such a rebel as a young child. Blessings, Lilly

Oh Lily, that was too good! Hahaha, my husband thinks I'm crazy, because out of the clear blue sky I started cracking up at your comments about Chinese and your mom wondering a little why you might be a rebel. Lol, if it did nothing else, it didn't hurt your sense of humor. I thought I might be scarred for life, from deer hearts on a stick. Btw, that is not a weird MN food. In fact he made it up to gross me out even more so I'd want to get out that morning to go see my mom.
Thanks my very dear friend for your kind and fun comments about this poem!

I'm glad it cracked you up. Have you recovered from Covid? I've made such progress with my arm, but I'm not up to writing a poem yet. All those exercises are strengthening it, but exhausting me. Blessings, Lilly

I am a lot better than I was a couple weeks ago, and I know that was because of infusions to keep me hydrated and covid medication for the immune suppressed. I haven't yet tested negative, but they will test again in a couple days. Then I can resume my PT. Right now it is just the nurse who comes every day. Thank God I don't have to leave the house. It is just too hard. ..... I am still saying prayers for you, and will continue. Please take care of yourself. Btw, I almost called you my Asiatic Lily. It is my favorite. We have different lilys thru out our yard and some are from my grandparents and came from theirs. So some are descendants that go back over 250 years. And we have almost every color there is. You should see our rock garden. It is the size of our house and is beautiful. Not bragging, just saying I love lilys too and enjoy them at least half of the year. So every time I think of you, I picture a beautiful pink lily!

You've been on my prayer list too. I'm sorry you're having to go through all that. I'd be so depressed. How wonderful about the lilies! You are amazing - I don't know how you can write so much when you're not feeling your best. Even before I broke my arm, I didn't spend much time on F.S.

Lol, I get lonely because my husband as sweet as he can be, has no time for poetry. And I can't lay in bed or in wheelchair so much. I would get depressed. So my FanStory time helps me to feel better. I really don't spend that much time writing, as I either write one fast or I have some on reserve from years of writing. I am used to pain and not feeling good because I have had lupus for over 40 years. Writing and chatting with friends is my best feel good medicine in the world for me. You and a few others feel like friends that I have had a whole lifetime! So thankful for you, my beautiful friend!

Thanks Justin for such a great review and comments about this poem. It really was bizarre and I wasn't sure how soon it would take to forgive him for taking that day from me. But then it wasn't too hard after I saw all he did.
MEN!! LOL. You gotta love 'em, cause you can't live without them. You're a pretty special one too, my friend!! Thanks again!!

I like your Thanksgiving surprise. When they surprise you, it is the best day ever. (Unless it is something that you don't like. Ha! Ha!) You have a great poem here to read.

Rosemary, you just get sweeter all the time. Thank you for the lovely, but fun review and comments. Just so you know, I found out there are no such things as deer hearts on a stick. He actually told me that to gross me out so I truly would not want to be home that morning. Lol......Thank you also for your very gracious gift of six stars. I truly appreciate it! Thanks again, my lovely friend.

Your poem is quite wonderful, written with humor and heart. It is even better since it is a true story. How great that your husband and family planned this surprise for you. Evi

This poem, The Strangest Thanksgiving, goes from bizarre to beautiful as this real-life Thanksgiving event rolls out with surprise and delight.

What an absolutely lovely story, and well played by hubby (though slightly naughty to let you think you were in for a fish fry!). I love how positive this is, and how fluid - writing a narrative in poetry is more difficult than most give credit for. I very much enjoyed :-)

Besides being a nice rhyming poem, this is a really sweet story. I would love it if I had one Thanksgiving like this, lol! This year I told hubby "we're going out" and he made the reservation.

Great entry for this contest - good luck!

Thanks so much Pam. There you go, your husband did his part. At least he didn't torture you with something called deer hearts on a stick. Haha! I doubt there is such a thing but he wanted to have me so appalled that I'd want to leave that morning. He's lucky I came back. But thanks my dear friend for your lovely words for my poem and for the well wishes for the contest. I'm one vote from first, with not much time left. That's not too bad. Thanks again!

Thanks so much Hon. You are a gem and I truly appreciate your very kind words for my poem. It was such a shock that year to see what everyone did to help out. I was hoping nobody would come because I didn't even know what deer hearts on a stick were. So thanks again for your lovely words for my poem. It is doing ok at third place place so far but we will see how it goes.

This is a funny gag that shows how much your family cares. I hope your mom beat the cancer. If not, I am sorry for your loss. I would be with your children with the root beer float for desert, since I am celiac and can't eat pumpkin pie. Happy Thanksgiving.
Good luck in the contest.
Keep writing and stay healthy

Thanks so much Joan! First I wanted to tell you that I am sorry you have celiacs because I can't handle not having a little of all my favorite foods at least. I love my food to much. Lol! Thanks for asking about my mom and she did die at only 58,. as she had pancreatic cancer, so it was a hard time for me. I couldn't believe my husband would do all of that to get me to leave for the morning, otherwise he knew I would have insisted on doing it all myself.
I was delighted by his surprise. Thanks my dear friend for your lovely comments and review!
