Ouch! Bill, you make me super happy that my niece married a man that's been a mechanic since he was old enough to hold a wrench! lol This was really something else, and more than likely, something that goes on more often than not. Quite honestly, if a clerk couldn't get my name right, I'd wonder if he could get anything right and I'd be walking out the door. (I used to tease my ex that I married him because his last name was so easy!) I used to want to walk out of classrooms when teachers that had my two older sisters before me, still couldn't pronounce my last name! It wasn't even that hard! lol
This was such a fun read.
Thanks for the smile...

Thanks, Susan. I read somewhere that having to correct your name to someone elevates them in your mind, which in turn lends to following their direction.

This sounds about right for the kind of training some of the service managers and employees must get at places where you might go for service. I've run across of few of them that could double for highway robbers.

I wonder which is their full-time job?
Comment from Wayne Fowler
Point well made. Never send your wife to have auto repairs. She will probably get screwed. Scare her, use a few made-up words, etc.
Well written piece.
Best wishes.

Bill,
I love your sense of humor. I was notorious for forgetting names on different jobs I had! Lol
This is a great story. Well-written and humorous.
Good luck with this one, Bob. Lol.

Except for the introductory paragraph, this would be perfect for the Dialogue Only contest. I wonder if you could have Tom enter it?

Anyway, this was superbly done and you had me fooled about how Roger and Mrs. J. It seems Roger knew exactly what he was doing and Mrs. J absolute approved. I think I will avoid that service station!

But can you?
Comment from Jay Squires
Well, as Red Skelton would say, "You dood it again, pardner. You seem to have such fun twisting and turning flash fiction on its ear. And all without the thought of winning a contest for your efforts. Once again, this blindsided me, and I'm so much the better for it.

Thanks, Jay. I like to let the end sneak up on me.

Well, this training exercise has all the components of
cheating the honest customer which I believed was your
intention, Bill. The dialogue read real and was believable.
Unfortunately, this has probably happened to many in real life.
Thanks for sharing, Jan

This hits so close to home that it gives me chills. Of course, I would have walked after all this as I know enough about cars to not allow myself to be snowballed, or just blatantly be lied to.

Me too. Now.
Comment from Regina Elliott
Oh gosh, this write is so
much reminding me of someone's MIL I know. A
real greedy snake in the grass
who has plenty of money but
will only tip server $2-3 dollars. Has screwed over her
own son for financial gain.
Anyway, brilliant write.

The exaggeration is creative, the story telling is well done, I recognized the humor, but it took a couple of readings to appreciate it. Good thing it is flash fiction. You did a good job with a few words and using mostly dialogue.
*** "frontend" Shouldn't this be two words? As one word it seems oxymoronic, which you could have done for humorous effect, but I saw it as two words further on, so just an error?

As I read these two usages, "front end" is a compound noun while "frontend" is an adjective. They are correct with the possible exception of a hyphen for front-end.
