This poem is so true. Some even make fun of their own mistakes. This is what is really funny. I think this is why shows like 'The Three Stooges' is still so popular.
Keep writing and stay healthy
Congrats on placing third in the contest.

Well, we can easily laugh at what happens to others, and often we will admit that we need a moment of light-hearted laughter to fight off stress keep ourselves on an even keel.

we do, indeed. I think pratfalls were meant to be laughed at, though. But I don't enjoy the misfortune of others. (generally) :)

Hello Katharine,
I'm glad to see that you've posted something again, it's been awhile. There seems to be a meanness that wasn't present in society not so many years ago. It's distressing because I think it comes from a hardening of our hearts and thinking only of ourselves. That being said, I once worked with a young man who was mentally and physically challenged who came to school one day with a shirt that said- it's always funny until someone gets hurt, and then it's hilarious. Honestly, I laughed. He laughed too, but didn't know why. Obviously, being hurt is no laughing matter, but some things do strike us as funny, at least initially. Thanks for sharing this. Good luck in the contest gal.
Have a blessed evening.

thanks Tom. I agree. Seems today's society is negative and uncaring of others - except for the LBGTQXYZs - boy, are they coddled and protected. I have to admit, I am very tired of that.

Hey Katharine,
I didn't realize that they had added so many more designations. Whatever happened to heterosexual men/ women? I'm so glad I don't have to try dating in this day and age.

me, too.
have you seen the new pronouns, or words to replace him and her, etc? absolutely ridiculous. (ri or rediculous?)

If it is an intentional fall, it can be funny, because it is meant to be. But so many people laugh at people having accidental falls and other embarrassments. So many of us now seem to have a cruel streak. Having been to the Lincoln Museum in Springfield IL, the postcard and newspaper articles prove we have always had that cruel streak.

I answered this once, saying, that the articles don't speak well of us, do they? but FS said I didn't respond, so here 'tis again. Thanks for reading and commenting.

Great observation in your 5-7-5 entry. It's very original, and best of luck in the contest. I think you're right about comedians finding humor in the mishaps that other people suffer. The real humorists are not afraid to make fun of themselves. I don't watch "Saturday Night Live" anymore, but they've turned to biased political humor and apparently make fun of only one side. You really made the most of your limited supply of words. judi

thanks, Judi. I didn't know Saturday Night Live was still on, but I can imagine they have great fun making jabs at us.
Thanks for your neat comment.

You are right, Pome Lover. Many people will laugh at other's
misfortunes or even cause them, then laugh. Many people
seem to believe that is their mission in life--to find fault
even when there is none. They still will find something or
make something up. There's a fine line between true funny
and hurtful funny. With today's woke society, there's no
escape from it for anyone. Your poem read well with good
syllable count, appropriate image, and message.
Thanks for sharing and best wishes in the contest, Jan

thanks, Jan! I think the biased media is a main contributer to the ruination of this country. They should be held accountable... but then a lot of people should.

Very nice poem and accompanying picture. I like both the literal interpretation and the more metaphorical one.
Sometimes we do that in real life, even if we aren't humorists. Or at least some people do...
It seems if it's others who fall instead of us, then it doesn't matter. I do try not to do that, but I guess I sometimes fail.
Thanks so much for making me think.
Good luck in the contest.

thanks, Heather.
I don't laugh if someone falls - as you realized, it's metaphorically meant, but this world has gotten so uncivilized, manners and morals of many seem to have gone by the wayside, and humor, more callous.

This is an excellent 5-7-5 poem, which meets the line formatting and syllable count required by the format. Good luck with your contest entry. Kate xx
