I have to visit this poem I must have missed. It done in a way that creates a thought provoking analogy on our view of God. Is he some far away isolated force and then you channel and hone it down to a great summation. Well done. Impersonal to personal. Myth to a reality.

Thank you so much for looking into this poem. It was part of a blind contest, so it probably wouldn?t have popped up in your box. I truly appreciate the six stars and careful review. You summed it up very well.

Excellent! I really like how you started out skeptical, as many of us are at times, but ended with hope that there is a caring god. I have my beliefs but am not very religious. However, your poem is great, even for a pretty severe skeptic like me...just a positive message overall.
Not sure it was intended, but the shape of your poem looks like the traditional chalice/Holy Grail as it appears and has been depicted in paintings etc for centuries! Awesome poem, thank you for sharing!!

Brandon, thank you so much for reading outside your comfort zone. You did quite well! I don't know how religious I am, either, but I am spiritual. The edicts of traditional religions even bothered Jesus, who was constantly at war with the religious leaders.
Funny about the shape, it was intentional!! You're the only one to notice!!
Take care,
Rhonda

You're very welcome. Well-deserved. Very cool idea to shape it like that!

Thank you. As I said, I don't write a lot of poetry. I usually do short stories or novels (not enough of that lately, but have fun with shapes when I can. I'm a poetic nonconformist, lol.

Hi Rhonda,
I've got a question for you... and if you ask Roy, he'll tell you how much I like to just play Devil's Advocate... I'm not being disrespectful, as I'm a true believer, for reasons probably unlike most other people.
In any case, my question is, why do we have to define God at all? Why do we have to say who He is? Why can't God just... be?
Food for thought!
Susan ;)

Susan, you are certainly right, we don't have to define Him, but many try to, so the poem was posed just in response to the one verse where Jesus asks Peter who he says he is. Just a little thought provoker, nothing more.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. They are received in the spirit given.
Take care,
Rhonda

I like that this well done free verse shows both sides of the God debate. It ends with hope and a simple definition for nonbelievers and a simple truth for believers.
Good luck in the contest.
Keep writing and stay healthy.

Joan, thank you so much for your review. You got to the heart of what I was trying to convey with the poem, and that is the most a poet can expect.

Everyone has questions. One day, he will answer them. We must trust and have faith in God. We have been put on earth to do what is right. None of us are perfect. He forgives us for our sins. If we continue to do wrong, the Devil is smiling and waiting for us. Thank you for sharing.

Carolyn, thank you for responding!! No, none of us are perfect, but made perfect through His sacrifice. Satan is as much our enemy as His, and He wants so much for us to avoid that entrapment.
Take care,
Rhonda

God is everything to me from the smile on someone's face to a romantic evening with the one you love, author. :) Still, there are many questions that each and every one asks. And it is correct to ask because we all have to make up our own hearts and chose. I believe in our Father and his Son and I haven't seen them. :)

Your title immediately got me thinking about when Jesus asked His disciples that question. Then your poem helps us consider all the ideas human thoughts suggested who God is. Your second set of questions returns us to Scripture for the answers as does your final line. Best wishes in the contest!

Thank you so much, my friend. I appreciate your review and comments. I guess that?s where my poem started, the question Jesus posed, and, I think, still does.
Take care

Dear Poet, your second verse says it all. I guess I can sum it up simply by saying your words have summed what those 'Nasty Creatures called Nuns crammed into our little heads all those years ago in primary school. It's sort of funny how those 'Nasties' from our past changed over the years into such positive role models. And in many senses, they made us 'Who We Are Today.'
Thank you Ladies.

Hi Bob. Thank you for the six stars. They are abundantly appreciated. I never experience Nuns, but there were some older women in my church that could fit their bill. It wasn?t until I was older that I got a kinder version of God, lol.
Thanks again!

Covers the content well. The contrasting views of God were effective and interesting. The rhymes were smooth. The meter jumps about so it takes some effort to read the first time through. Easier on the second read.

It was originally written as free verse, but I had to change it at the last minute to accommodate the Review Committee. It is what it is now, thanks for your comments, though.
