I loved the POV of your work. The art choice was supportive

I've often wrote of the unjust wars that young men fought by the decision of old men behind oaken desks who return home to their families every day, safe and sound. Forcing some young men who don't believe in killing to deal with an unresolvable problem, beautifully written my friend, blessings Roy

Thank you, Roy. Life wasn't fair then and it isn't fair now. War makes everyone do things that they would not do. Everyone in the medical field is a hero because they are there trying to save lives. I'm glad you liked it.

Brilliant and dramatic! I feel like you really took us into the battle both physically and emotionally. Having witnessed the death of the one and immediately wanting revenge is a relatable human reaction. Hope this does well in the contest!

Thank you, Helen. It is human nature to react at a moment's notice. In war, people do what has to be done. Everyone in the medical field is a hero they try to save lives.

War sucks at any age. So many went into a war that should have never be. Coming home was awful because they spit on soldiers for not winning.

You pack a lot of narrative into this poem about a Vietnam War medic. The Speaker definitely proves to be a hero as he tends to the wounded and dying. I can totally understand his rage when briefly he kills rather than saves. Your poem graphically illustrates how War is Hell. Rod

This is a very moving poem shown from the viewpoint of the medic, a pacifist.
I can so clearly see him picking up that rifle, his anger overtaking him at the death of his friend/comrade, and blindly firing it before reality takes hold again.
Just one thing though, in the line 'Yet, I rather try to save you' - should it be 'I'd' rather than I?
