No black humor, but black horror growing up in my father's house. As the lyrics of the old spiritual is sung, "nobody knows the trouble I've seen, nobody knows but Jesus". Thanks for the review.

Tears silently coating each imprinted moment.

That line is unbelievably incredible. And then I also gapped at the brilliance of these lines...She ingested her pain.
She digested her sorrow.

Sandra, wow. And then the series of lines that grew SMASHED into climax. The genius of your poetic talent knows no bounds. Just when I think you have done the most incredible thing with words that could ever be done, you squeeze the life blood out of mere letters like no one ever has.

What a chilling and sobering poem. It touches the soul. I have a friend whose father made him throw a bag of new born kittens into a creek to drown. My friend is 70 years old now and that day still haunts him. this poem has the feeling of truth. I hope it is not your truth. Bless you. ann

As you know, I have privately read this poem before and it is powerful and awesome. Thank you for sharing this one on Fan Story. Can't wait for your schedule to slow down for our own project.

Thank you so much Theo. You will probably like the long piece I am working on. It's the retelling of a story from a slave's perspective.

So sad. What a cruel father. If you can kill a kitten like that you can hurt people too. You expressed the grief and depression so well. The presentation is beautiful too. Well done.

Yeah, the big ol' bullies have to have someone to beat on, someone they can pummel and manipulate. You took me back to those vicious ass whuppin's of my childhood, until I figured out it was easier to give than receive. Thanks for sharing.

Dang, Sandra, this is another powerful poem! You always tell a story and deliver a message clear and strong. I have never heard this anger expressed in this way and transferred to the child. Exceptional insight. Terry.

This is dauntingly beautiful and also incredibly painful. I don't know if I'll look at your portfolio because you've written so much the other day it took me ages to find the poem you wanted me to read.
Even if I don't look at your notes, I know these things unfortunately happen. I cannot understand such cruelty. It's really tough. I just hope you aren't the girl in the poem.
I don't know if you like non-fiction, but there's a book by Stephanie Foo, who tries to explain and understand why her parents were so cruel to her: What My Bones Know.
Thanks for sharing.

Animals know grief all too well as there is much cruelty in the world and I suspect this story is more about the cruelty of a man to his own child too, a powerful and hard hitting tale of immense brutality Sandra, a poignant write, love Dolly x
