This is so beautiful! A very moving poem for all of the children who have become caregivers for their parents as they succumb to the ravages of aging and even dementia. I especially liked:
"I say I love you,
because your loves live on in me,
indelibly imprinted on my soul,"
Hope this does well in he contest!

Such a beautiful and compassionate post, and I agree with your thoughts. Love is much more than a fluttering feeling - it is expressed in actions of selfless service, especially when those actions are not recognised, not acknowledged, and there is no return. Beautiful writing, very moving.

I truly appreciate the tone and depth of this poem. We all hope that a child would care for us in this way and that after we shed the flesh and move on that someone who remains would have the devotion to us to say these beautiful words about us. I think you've got a typo in the 6th stanza "loves" should be love? Not sure as you may mean it plural, but it may flow better with out the "s" and I believe would honor the intent either way.

I did intend to write that as "loves" instead of "love", because what parents pass on to their children is a multitude of them. Thank you for paying such close attention to it.
