Hello author, when fire strikes, we never know how we would react.
Your poem reads and flows well and has good rhyming within, and I could feel your conflict and dilemma.

I especially liked:
My Bible means so much to me
The pictures that my grandkids drew
It's not like I can get brand new

(Grandchildren's drawings are priceless. A piece of their heart is in every picture drawn and given. Their artwork is something that you never want to lose.)

As hard as it would be to leave certain items behind, in cases of fire, sometimes we must part with these things. As long as everyone is out of the house and safe and sound, that's what counts. Any fire that a person walks away from is an ok fire. As this is a contest entry, I wish you good luck. LateBloomer

Margaret, thank you so much! 11 kids at one time? Whoa! Not sure I could do that. Lol! Anyway I think the hardest of all those things that my poem talked about was to get the folder of the drawings that my grandchildren had made for me throughout the years. Those are of no value to anyone else, but they mean the world to me. However my message is something that I would hope I remember if that ever occurred. Thank you for your kind comments, as I knew you would be on the same page with your faith and values.
    Thank you again my friend!

Hello author, we have scanned the grandchildren artwork into the computer. It's amazing how it looks.

An important message! Reminds me of that old saying: "The best things in life are not things!"

I'm praying for those in Florida who are very likely gathering things in order to vacate before Hurricane Ian.

"Stuff" can be replaced...

Karenina, thank you so much! I too have been praying for the people in Fla, especially for Sally and her family. Those are of no value to anyone else, but they mean the world to me. However my message is something that I would hope I remember if that ever occurred. I'm like you... Keep the jewels (not that there are many) --- Forget the bling and baubles. Give me my children's handprints, and my grandchildren's artwork! (Oh, and my grandmom's Rosary...)

    I'd be content!

I was wondering why he or she is running back into the flames for material things. The font size is great. The message is well-developed and proceeds nicely in each subsequent verse. I liked that you made the thoughts a bit larger and used the * symbol. I think it would be interesting to make them deep yellow in color like for caution you are getting ready to make a mistake or red in color for danger or for the STOP sign signaling to think. Good luck in the contest. You have a good entry.

Thank you so much Sandra. I sure appreciate your kind comments.
I'm not sure I would do that, but the prompt was for us to try to save five more things. So that's why I incorporated the voice so that I could end it on the right message,.

Just a suggestion. You know I like color. LOL You are welcome. Good luck!

Oh no, lol, when I said I wouldn't do that, I was talking about running back and forth into a burning house. I'm actually thinking about trying your suggestion. I love it.

I misunderstood your reply. Yes, I think it would be cool, but before you do it look at my poem "Poetry Is" and see an example for what I mean. I love color!!

I thought this was such a great response to the prompt. It uses a storyline to clearly demonstrate the many choices that might conceivably run through a person's mind in the case of a fire. But the best part of this poem is the message so cleverly tucked in between the lines. Best of luck in this contest. I think this is an excellent entry. MM

If I knew how to help you fix it, I would.
Email Tom, he fixes everything:)

You have done a great job with this provocative prompt.
You were very clever in your writing.

I appreciate the presentation. The choice of background color enhances the theme.

This verse flows fluidly without effort.

The rhymes are smooth without force

None really knows what they would take or leave until confronted.

Good luck in the contets

I think the space added to the gravity of your message. Sometimes we do by accident the very thing that is needed. You might even be able to make the case for divine intervention. The actual message that you put forward in your piece.

Oh Nomi, thank you so very much for those most lovely words and your comments about the spaces and everything. And of course I so very much appreciate your gracious six stars. You truly lifted my spirits tonight and I believe that to be divine intervention as well. Seems God always sends just the right person just at the right time. Thank you from the bottom of my heart dear friend! I needed that smile!

I think we all do those emergency drills in our heads. What would we grab if we only had a few minutes. You think you'll be lost without these things. Life and the lives of those you love are top of the list. This was a cool poem. Love the voice of God coaxing you through this. Great job. Gretchen

Your spacing is fine as it brings your words more boldly, and the presentation enhances your words.
I like how you list those items that go through your mind to save; each one may have more importance than the last.
Then you conclude that your sense of values is your greatest find.
Very clever and creative poem.
Good luck in the contest.

powerful poem about what to take in a fire. during my career we often had to sit through Emergency action planning sessions. One thing that stuck in my mind, if you are in a fire situation, you may have five minutes to get out, no more. You need to move, and get out. What would I take? a bag with my laptop, charger, phone, wallet, and coat and change of clothes and car keys and that is is. I need to do a home fire drill one of these days. Thanks for reminding all of us of what is important.

I think values are something we hear, then adopt by choice as a worthwhile philosophy, as prejudice is something learned, so too values, like opinions are normally someone else's adopted by us, perception and thought are the vehicles used, but the choice is the important ingredient, beautifully written, blessings Roy
Suggestion, The message then would be a hit.
