Hi Brett,
Sadly society is still on a downturn and these drills are set to become a fact of life.
You have highlighted a surging problem and the potential mental health issues for children, teachers and students.
You have showed just how much can be relayed in aj few well chosen words.
Congrats on your win.
Blessings
Shirley

Congratulations on winning the flash fiction contest. The nervous door handle jiggling led me to think a crazed shooter was in the hallway. I was glad to find out in the end, the story was about a drill. Great storytelling.

I have done this drill too many times to count over the past 28 years. I am so glad to be retired. Your title is good. The story is accurate to the true drill. Your visual fits well. However, your font size needs to be larger for older eyes. Good luck in the contest.

Your flash is well told - but there is an element of sadness that that is the reality in today's world for many children. No freedom to be children because of the fear of guns and attacks. Best wishes for your entry.

That would be a frightening experience. In my day we would hide beneath the desk believing if an A-bomb exploded all would be well, do tell.
I am glad that never occurred either.

I was worried while reading this story. I could almost feel the silence and whispers. I was relieved at the end of this story. Thank you so much for sharing, and best wishes to you.

Modern day, I don't know about that but we are certainly made to believe things were different in the past.

I murmured, "Someone has to halt this insanity!"

This is line is some many think, I believe. I like that there is no answer to it. Because there isn't one were humans exist.

A topic that will attract many voters. Good idea.

You did a good job with your contest entry,
Mystery Author. You drew readers in from the
start. It was intense not knowing what was
happening. Then, we found out it was a drill.
Your words were descriptive and flowed well.
Thanks for sharing and best wishes in the contest, Jan

This one-hundred-word story, Breathe, has the required word count and builds the sense of anxiety that turns out to be more directed to the necessity of practicing for a shooter, instead of the worst-case scenario.

Ha, ha, ha good one funny and scary in the same time. I thought there was a hostile attack on the school, but I guess was just a rehearsal. Thank you for sharing and good luck with the contest and with your writings.
