This has a lot of truth to it. I noticed in the second paragraph of the part that says the real writer you use the line when you out down word up word on the page. When I think you meant to say when you write down word upon word on the page. Maybe I am wrong about this, I don't know.
Just a suggestion like you say, no brutal honesty allowed. I am not sure I agree with your part about the muse and how it affects us as writers. I often get struck by my muse and it helps me to get creative and write.
All in all, this is wonderfully written.
I 'get' a lot of your good advice and thank you for writing this.

What can I say? As usual you have offered us a hand up in our writing. This time, ways to feel better about ourselves and what we spend so much time doing. If I include notes, diaries, summaries of what I read and classes/seminars I attend, reviews (yes, in my opinion you can use these to hone your skills / thoughts / ideas / vocabulary), letters, I probably spend between nine and twelve hours a day writing. It looks awful when I put it down in black and white like that. So yes, at over half my waking life I shouldn't claim 'I'm not a real writer'. However, I will persist in claiming I'm a novice at certain aspects of the craft. My poetry still has a long way to go (it's superficial, direct and not poetic enough), and when I write a novel I can't hold a single POV (personally, I don't even see the problem with that, but my readers do, and it seems to be growing worse). So I suppose what I'm trying to say is that I feel your argument should be slightly nuanced somewhere to say that whilst we are all real writers, we have to understand the mechanics of the thing, consistency, coherence and grammar/spelling before you can move from novice to advanced level (tone you have already covered admirably). I don't think writers should try to ski before they can run, even if some infants who are lucky enough to be born in the right countries manage this brilliantly. Kate xx
