Indeed, you are a beautiful person through and through, spreading the joy you have inside with wonderful words. You tell so clearly what a change it makes to become the woman God intended you to be!

Thanks so much Verna! I always tell my grandkids that when I grow up, I want to be just like them and they think that is so funny, as they love having a crazy grandma. That kind of crazy must come with confidence that I am happy to be able to show them, that I didn't always show their parents. Amazing how any type of abuse in early years will mold us into what we think we are. Although I was popular in high school, I carried the pretense and pain with me until I found God, who was always there, but couldn't see Him as long as I was hating deep inside and people pleasing on the outside. What a mess that can be! Once again I just hope anyone else feeling this way will see God standing right there holding His hand out to take theirs. Thanks my dear friend for the kind review, caring comments and always being an example as a strong, beautiful and vibrant woman with such a kind heart. You mean so much to me Verna!

Debi,This is a well done autobiographical poem about how self-esteem and self-worth can be hijacked by people who treat you badly. It shows that getting past others' views of you to the real you inside is what makes you strong and that faith helps you do this. It also shows that writing allows you to be more gregarious than you are in person.
Good luck in the contest.
Keep writing and stay healthy
Joan

PS This poem could be about me. I was picked on through Junior High and High School.

Thanks so much Joan!! I can't imagine why anyone would pick on one of the loveliest people I know here. However I was teased by kids in grade school because of my last name being Pick. Oh would I love to be called toothpick again, haha! Although my abuse was of molestation and rape and I was pretty popular in high school, but still felt like the ugliest and unloved creature in the world. I carried the pretense and pain with me until I found God, who was always there, but couldn't see Him as long as I was hating deep inside and people pleasing on the outside. What a mess that can be! Once again I just hope anyone else feeling this way will see God standing right there holding His hand out to take theirs. Thanks my dear friend for the kind review, caring comments and for sharing what just had to be the same kind of inside vulnerability. As one of my very first friends here, I have always seen such a beautiful and vibrant woman. You lead as an example my friend.

You're welcome, Debi. I can't imagine the pain of your abuse and rape.
    Debi,
I think most bullies tease because they are jealous or self conscious themselves.

Thank you for sharing this writing prompt with us. It's an accumulation of all our life experiences that make us who we are today. With God's help we can cultivate the bad and it will help us grow. I know God has turned you into an amazing woman.

Thanks so much Barb for your very kind words and review. I'm so thankful that God gave us a common bond that frees us all through His Son, Jesus.
And for the bond that we all have as family here at FS. You are a very special friend and very thankful for that as well!

Thank you for this very insightful and telling poem about yourself. It has many lovely lines and thoughts. I especially like: "I've bottled up such love and joy; it's fighting to get out, It needs to have a bigger voice; more appropriate to shout." Keep shouting!

Katie you are a woman who I have always admired and envisioned standing straight with your head held high, and thought to myself that maybe I still don't stand that tall, I am doing quite well. Thanks my dear friend for the kind review, caring comments and being the kind of woman that others can look up to with self respect.

Debi,

This is a beautiful poem about overcoming challenges, learning to accept spiritual help and daring to be who we were meant to be. Perfectly written with a strong and loving message.

You are welcome, Debi. Hatred only eats the hater. Sometimes that's hard to learn. I don't have the energy to sustain it, or the desire to let it control me. The default emotion has to be love. Love the person, fight the demon that causes them to do bad things.

And so you should, Debi. You can stand up tall and face the world with honesty and truth. That you found God was there for you, no matter what, and that He took your pain away, is testament to His love for you. Well done, my friend. I enjoyed reading this. Warm hugs, Sandra xx

What a lucky human you are to have completed that long, and often lonely journey and finished up accepting who you are. This truly is a great poem. Faith and contentment are comforting companions to carry through life. May I congratulate you on having both. And you're a really great poet as well.

Debi! Because you have shared the terrible things that have happened to you, my heart filled with joy that you walked through that darkness toward Jesus, and triumphed as a wife, mother, poet, woman, friend...and devout Christian!

Kenzie's art is amazing. Know who else is, amazing? You!

This is not the poem of a victim. This, my friend, is a full on spiritual testimony to the miracle of faith that has planted its seed and blossomed within...

This IS who you are! We've seen it since you first posted!

I am so fortunate to count myself as your friend!

Karenina

Debi, sweet SOTU, this poem is so heartfelt. Your feelings of love and joy are pouring out into the Universe, and your heart is smiling. You've evolved into the beautiful woman who you are--strong, confident, and proud. You saw God's light, and you gravitated towards it. Your life is now in a beautiful place. Your poem reads and flows well and has silky rhyming within. I especially liked:

My life that serves much purpose now, no longer is a sham
Because I'm proud to show the world, the woman that I am

(Debi, you make the world a brighter place each and every day. God bless you.)

As this is a writing prompt entry, I wish you good luck. Xo. Margaret

P.s. I forgot to mention that Kenzie's artwork is outstanding. She is very talented. This particular artwork with the half red and half blue woman would also make an excellent choice for a political writing ... when left meets rights, the blending of a Nation, etc. Have a great night.
