This is beautiful, first words that come to mind, a spontaneous thought. Yes, I did enjoy this poem... A lot.

-Something is on the radar, and lit up by the discovery wild beauty of nature.

-Your words paint on canvas in oils for the intensity of fire hues and vivid emotions. Your words paint in oil on canvas textures your words with a specific glow and seeps into the canvas of memory, with soft splashes of light.

-Magnificent artistry that gives sensory perceptions of nightfall in a Montana or Big Sky country night.

And if none of this was your intent, it is still a rather beautiful emotive poem, sparking emotions and trailing imagination.
Thanks for this chez d'oeuvre. All the best.

I think poetry exists to evoke thought and emotional sensation, so my words are always about conjuring ideas. I absolutely loved you response :-)

I enjoyed this poem very much. Because of my own past, I felt an underlying sense of darkness and depression and was especially affected by the words:
darkening perception,
chasing light's perfection.
Which I saw as a mentally challenged person trying to grapple with his demons. Kate xx

I think there's always a dark side, a doubt, a suspicion. It's only against that backdrop I can truly appreciate the light. Thank you for sharing your response :-)

THAT is exactly what I would have said if I wrote this. In other words, I feel it and I love it. Resonates strong brother. I'm learning so much from my fellow writers. And I just figured out that 6 stars can be given. So that's what I rate it.

Thank you so much :-). You only get 6 of them to give out per week (they get replenished on Sundays), so I'm honoured to have one. I can tell you're a fellow instinctive poet - I liken it to standing under a waterfall, trying to catch handfulls of drinking water, or doing a jigsaw with pieces that fall randomly from my hat, with no image to base it on.

I'm so glad you liked this one :-)

Mike,
You're really an amazing poet. I remember how I felt viewing sunsets--an exhilarating feeling. The photo is a nice supplant to your words.
Exceptional entry, Mike.
Keep writing
Blessings,
Cindy

Thank you so much, Cindy! You're going to make me blush :-). This was definitely a case of the image inspiring the poem, and along one of my favourite themes - contracts, and how it helps to clarify.

Michael,

Thank you for sharing this first class write. It have a plethora of descriptive stanzas brilliantly written. I get the sense that this poem speaks of ongoing frequency of wild fires. An exceptionally written poem with the perfect accompanying image.

All the best,

Eugene

Wow, you are one talented poet. I did enjoy the read very much -- stunning imagery evoked, and much truth in those final stanzas. This would have made an excellent contest entry, but then I'm pretty sure you won't have any trouble writing another... (I'm in awe.)

Thank you so much :-). I don't think the contest committee likes me very much, lol. I'm thrilled you enjoyed this one!

Ummmmmmm, %#@!!! (Lol) Methinks there are favorites at play and no amount of brilliance will affect the decisions of some members of that group.
But all tongue-in-cheek aside (*snort*, guffaw*) the committee is anonymous for a reason, don't you agree?
    You are very welcome. :))
reply by the author on 02-Aug-2022
Oh, it definitely needs to be anonymous, yes, and despite my sarcasm, I do believe it's a fair process. Just a little frustrating at times :-)

I could not agree more about it being frustrating. However, I completely disagree that it is a fair process... With some of the members, indeed. but I think they are often overruled... (You didn't hear it from me. *wink*)

I love the way you used light and dark as metaphors, but I have to say that this stanza:
'For every perfect sunset, there's a thought,
darkening perception,
chasing light's perfection."
and I had issues. LOL When I look at a perfect sunset, I see a reminder that tomorrow will be another wonderful day and filled with hope. I know I'm a mess.

I think there's always that balance - something darkening my thoughts that makes the sunset that much sweeter by contrast :-). Thanks so much, Barbara!

Mike,
A beautifully rendered poem. Strong and clear images. You really have the touch to put on paper that which erupts from your consciousness.
Thanks for your artistry!
Richard

The contrasts in life make it all very interesting to see and experience and you gave us a moment of tranquil calm at sunset here, much enjoyed Mike, love Dolly x

Thank you, Dolly :-). I was inspired by the image and it made me think about how we highlight things through contrast, and how writing is very much about those highlights.

A beautifully crafted poem with vivid images throughout the verse. The best part is that the meaning and emotion for the most part are suggested by the images or embedded below the words. Well done

Thanks so much, Theo :-). I like to let the reader dig a bit and see what they take from something. I always have a idea what things mean to me, but it's great fun to see whether that comes though or there are more interesting interpretations.
