Exceptional
This work has reached the exceptional level

It is some years now since we had an annual crown of sonnets contest. It is a form we don't see very often as it takes a lot of work to get it right and requires more work than most reviewers of poetry will care to undertake.

We must remember this one is a satire and gloss over the minor metrical errors - they never allowed that in those contests - and also the departures from the conventional rhyme schemes.

I think it is more important to concentrate on the content, which is a damning indictment of the latest mass murder, mainly of children that has taken place in the United States. once again we are sure to hear the bigoted voice of the gun lobby crowd and the equally fixated voices of the chiefly Democrat opposition.

It will roll over; nothing will be done;
Your land is too enamoured of the gun.

    Thank you! Indeed, I took some liberties with meter in places and relied a bit on near-rhyme so I could sail closer to my point :-).

    I used to enjoy the Crown contest (and would ensure I met the form more closely in that circumstance). I've been thinking about sponsoring one since I couldn't see it on the listing.

    I would say the US seems made from my UK perspective, but politics seems to be getting out of hand everywhere!

    Thanks for the great review and for seeing the intent of the satire.

Excellent
Not yet exceptional. When the exceptional rating is reached this is highlighted

That's a good one, Mike. I don't think there are too many true journalists left. I have heard about a half dozen different stories about the recent shooting - probably none of them accurate.

This rating does not count towards story rating or author rank.
The highest and the lowest rating are not included in calculations.

    I think it's more about the latest crusade than getting to the truth, these days. Much easier to pick an emotive approach and watch the clicks roll in. I know, I'm a cynic :-)
