This is a lovely poem and the silhouetted image is striking. I felt like the first half of the poem was a tiny bit choppy, but the last half seemed to work out of that. Great job. Best wishes.

You remind me of my Grandad, who never spoke of his time in the war. My Nan told me he was a sniper, and was proud that he used his cigarette rations as currency, and never smoked. I credit him with me never smoking - everyone else in my family did when I was young. That was how strong an influence he had, without ever needing to try. Thank you for the trio down memory lane, and for your powerful poem.

Thank you for reading my poem and for sharing your story. Your grandfather sounds like he was a fine man. :)

Well done on your poem Boogienights! Unfortunately my quiver of sixes is empty, or I would award you one for this fine poem. These men and women are indeed heroes. When I'm praying for them, I like to remember their families who support them at home. They suffer with worry and just the fact that a family member is putting themselves in danger. Thanks so much for sharing this. Congratulations on first place.
Have a blessed day.

I can see why this poem won first place in the contest. It is beautiful and patriotic, and true. We owe these brave men and women more than we could ever repay. Thanks for sharing.

This is a wonderful poem that flows well and has an important message. Great overall presentation with the color choice. Men and women like your father should be honored every day and not just on Memorial Day. They sacrifice so much and you have relayed this in your poem with deep thoughtfulness. Nicely done!

Very well thought out and written. I appreciate your appreciation and the foresight to support right not wrong. The people who have worn or wear the uniforms are a class of people unmatched by those who protest against the stars and stripes, wherever their flags are flown.

I appreciate the sentiment about thanking veterans. The only ting is I don't know how to respond when someone thanks me. Very nice job. Good luck in the contest.

Wonderful thoughts. We really should all make sure our military men and women are recognized for the duty they do and the experiences they endure just to keep us safe here at home.
Nicely said.

A fine tribute to all soldiers who go to battle and lose their lives in the name of freedom. These servicemen are courageous as they fight the common enemy, a fine write, much enjoyed, love Dolly x
