Super cute! As a mom, I've been there! lol
I"m not sure why you didn't take 2nd place with this. In my (sort of) humble opinion, Sandra's Party Time! should have taken first, immediately followed by Howlin. But... *sigh* ... They didn't ask me! lol
Great job on this.
A group of us are putting together a kids' anthology in the fall. If you're interested in submitting this to the selection group, PM me. :)
Blessings and congratulations again,
Deb

I did PM you, and thanks!!!
I appreciate your saying that about Howlin'! They wouldn't accept my submission for the birds and the bees contest, "The Pastor's Problem." wasn't supposed to be a poem. oh, well.
However, I have a poem coming out in Cricket Magazine (or Spider) whichever one they decided to include it in) this month. I'm very excited!

LOL! I really enjoyed your funny poem, Katherine... If you can't bet 'em, join 'em!
I love the flow of your words - your enjambing is seamless and gives great pace to the sequence of events.
A fun read! Good luck in the contest :)
Best wishes as always, Debra x

thanks, Debra for your neat comments!!
I'll tell you, listening to the news today - what Biden is doing (and the corrupt media) to our country, makes me want to howl!
But here you are with a new word for me. You are too smart - gotta look up "enjambing" :) but I'm glad it's seamless! :) :)
    Thanks again!!

LOL - I got a red squiggle underneath that word, so maybe I made it up?! The word enjambment means - the continuation of a sentence without a pause beyond the end of a line, couplet, or stanza ;) x

yep. I got a red line, too :) ha!
Looked it up. Now I know a new word- Thank you very much.)

This is a really cute poem for children, although the bird's contribution to the eggs might be frowned upon as uncouth. But it is still very amusing, and some children would get a kick out of mom howling.

little boys, especially, love uncouth- burps, farts, etc.
At least I didn't call it what it was. Have you seen any lists of books for boys advertised by book stores? Loads of uncouth. Doesn't mean I like it, but kids do--and mine wasn't so bad. But I appreciate your comments and truly thank you.

Try looking up Cricket Publications. They publish magazines and books and treated me very fairly several years ago with a story I wrote for one of their magazines.

I have a published poem in this month's Cricket. They have published me before, too. But thanks for the suggestion.

Cricket is really fair even if they buy all rights. They sold my short story for Spider five more times and gave me half of the earnings each time. Made more than $2000 on a children's short story.

wow! That is fantastic! bravo for you!
I'm going to keep trying. Haven't gotten my money or mags yet. I guess, any day now.

This is delightful, and I think children would enjoy the wording. They could sympathize with John, who's not having a good day. Sister stole his bacon. That was bad enough, but then the parrot pooped on his eggs. Funny part about the dog howling and neighborhood dogs beginning to howl too. What's a mother to do but join in the howling. A funny scenario. Best of luck in the contest. judi

Big sister sure is a trouble maker. What a mess she stirred up. I think kids would like this poem. No spelling errors were noted. Best of luck in the contest.

Hello Katharine,
This was so funny! I can see all of it playing out. I'm always amazed at what dogs can eat and not get ill. Rather than toss the eggs, it seems like the dog should be able to eat them without any reprisal. Oh well. Great poem gal, I really enjoyed it.
Have a blessed evening.

Thanks, Tom. After listening to the news, sometimes, I feel like howlin'!!
Do you go out in your boat everyday?
reply by T B Botts on 23-May-2022
It just depends on the weather and if there are any fish around, and of course if the boat is working correctly. Boats are a lot of work to keep running, especially old wooden boats. Right now it's down in Hoonah and I'm here in Wasilla. If I were there now I'd be preparing it for the season, but I'm not going down until June 11. To answer the question simply, no. I wish I could though.

Well, I am no child, but I found the poem very amusing! I didn't say "EWWW," but it was gross. Thank you for sharing and giving me a smile. Best wishes to you.

Haha, age appropriate kids would react just as you stated,
Pome Lover. I can hear them now. Your poem was fun to
read and imagine all the goins' on. Yes, it would create a
hullabaloo.
Best wishes, Jan
