This once again was a continuation of some rather important information, G. I really enjoy the simplicity of the sign, the picture. Your words of wisdom are well noted and very well appreciated. Of course, it was saved.

Thank you for sharing this post with us. Yes, to me there is a very thin line. I often struggle to make sure I don't rush the scene but also leave out information that doesn't move the storyline along. I usually allow it in, if it helps give deeper meaning to the characters.

It's tricky to know exactly what to remove but when you get it write it's great! lol

You've described stages that most all of us have gone or go through by listening to all the conflicting information on what's right in wrong in writing. Meaningful actions cover a lot of ground depending on who is reading the story and what we are trying to get across. Great chapter! Thanks for sharing.

A lot of it also comes down to knowing your audience and what they expect too, without compromising your integrity or vision.

More good advice. Lucid and easily absorbed. Pacing is a bit of an art. Some action rushes headlong. On other occasions, a more leisurely and discursive style works well. In all the situations you mention, linking the action to the specific character in the frame is essential.

Character is key. if the reader loses the character, game over. I once read a story and a fight sequence took about a thousand word. It was only after I'd read it all that i realised only four or five punches ahd been thrown... ridiculous! lol

Yes, you must've run through this piece without checking with editing. There are a lot of misspellings in the essay. This is good advice nonetheless but I was distracted by the misspellings so much that I wasn't able to take in all of what you wrote.
Thanks for the great advice!
Jesse

There were three story, travel and location. I wouldn't say three typos were a lot but I'm glad you found them.

Yes, I am glad too. I wasn't counting. I noticed them and was surprised, that's all. Yet I loved your advice anyway.

I like this piece on building a scene with movement and description over the flat "outline" as one might see in a story that is being rushed through. I find that I do just that, outline, as I am eager to move the plot ahead. I do try to go back and explode a moment here and there to inject some personality into a character or better color the setting.
Love this tutorial.

I'm already checking out previous chapters, and it's surprising what a difference it makes to some of my sentences. My folder is filling nicely, Gareth. These pages would make a brilliant reference book to go on up and coming authors, new ones and more established. There is no stopping when it comes to learning. This was an exceptionally good piece. I enjoyed reading it. Well done, my friend, I hope there is more? :)) Sandra xx

Many thanks Sandra. I think there'll be two or three more in this series then I'll move on to something else.

As in the previous parts, you have gone to great lengths to write clearly an essay that will help us to become stronger writers. I particularly liked the example of Ruth and Jim. This was very telling.
