Yes. Yes, oft times the beauty is even more profound in the absence of color! This is written beautifully, with the perfect image! Our imaginations fill in the hue!

Hi Debra,
I love sunflowers. The black and white contrast to the golden sunflower does indeed lend itself to masterpiece quality.
Good luck in the contest.

Comment from Gloria ....
I really enjoy your creative process on this write. Tis true that the beauty existing in full colour, is also very apparent in black and white.
Excellent entry into your book, and many thanks for sharing. :))

Hello Debra
I love the elegant composition of your write, fitting complement for the lovely illustration. As I pondered its message, the words of an old old song came to mind "Darling you are growing older
Silver threads among the gold" Our essence remains the same, regardless of its packaging.
I wish you well in the contest with this lovely, confident poem.
Stay safe and blessed

Hi Debra,
This poem makes me think of the opening scenes of "The Wizard of Oz". They are in faded black & white. After Dorothy gets caught by the tornado, she winds up in the land of Oz. When she opens the door, there is such brilliant color. The Munchkins are hiding among the flowers.
So, as I look at this photo, I wonder why it's presented in black & white. It must be because of the contrast. The photographer wants to put our imagination to work, coloring the sunflower to its real state. Or, perhaps, if captured in film, the sunflower can't boast its beauty. Only when it's free, can it glow with color.
As you put it, the sunflower is still "a masterpiece", whether "real or imagined".
Nicely penned 5-7-5 for the contest! Good Luck!
Hugs,
Kimbob

Yes I don't think colour can diminish the intricacy and delicacy of a flower, it's still a thing of beauty and creative wonder, this is beautifully written Debra, well done, blessings Roy

I've been seeing that word "ekphrastic" a lot lately, but I didn't really understand it. I'm not sure I do now, but this poem was very pretty. And, yes, it is still a work of art.
