I try to offer a diverse variety of poetry, although I don't write that much on the story side. Your writes are always different and I have to say my favourite writes are the truthful ones. You can't beat a personal experience to bring out the best in a writer, much enjoyed Wendy, a delightful buffet, love Dolly x

Thank you Dolly! You are a Master Chef at what you do, and even within a genre you offer plenty of variety! And sometimes a bit of extra spice, lol!
Thanks for your encouraging review. Always appreciated.

I enjoyed this thought-provoking piece. First a comment on the poem before I forget. I think stanza two needs a couple of apostrophe's to change the metre slightly and improve the flow (we can talk about this between ourselves if you want). Then your argument. Very well reasoned and seasoned. I also believe that variety is the spice of life, and as life is writing... but I have a problem, I love series as well as feature films in my entertainment. So If I produce one piece of work, I immediately have five or ten more bursting to escape... and FS has restrictions that won't accommodate this. So I am being smothered by notes, jottings or unposted final productions. I am somewhat stymied by this situation, and am considering my options as I write this. Help! Kate xx

Thank you Katherine for your insightful review, and suggestion. I have tied to improve the metre of the poem, and I think it is smoother. Also fixed the near-rhymes to be proper rhymes.
Re your film series - I am assuming that FS doesn't allow you to create a book for such things? I wonder if Carol (Begin Again) could ask her son about how to go about this? He is a film producer, and may be able to offer suggestions - or a different group to join as well as FS. I am sure she would be delighted to help if she can.

FS allows any type of piece, but you can only post two a day... I keep being blocked. Yes I had come to the conclusion I need to find another outlet for my energies...

Yes, that is quite limiting- as I just found out right now. (But unfortunately some people would just post huge amounts, regardless of quality.) The only thing is to combine pieces into Part (i) and Part (ii) or more, and post them together. But many readers won't bother reviewing if the work is too long. It is a shame, because people need to be encouraged to read longer pieces, and review them thoughtfully, not just the tiny morsels which are more effective at earning money. I feel for you. There must be some other site surely, which will give more freedom for posting. Your creativity needs a satisfying outlet.

Thank you for all your offerings of poetry and prose. My compliments to the chef. Most of all I appreciate that your dishes are created and served up from a place of love.

This site is like a pot luck supper. We each bring our offerings and we're free to browse, taste and relish the offerings of others.

Enjoy a safe and peaceful Sunday, Wendy G

Blessings

Julia

Oh yes, I love that image of a pot luck supper. Perfect. May I include it in my notes with acknowledgment of you as the source? (Sauce- play on words, lol)
Thanks for your wonderful review and encouragement!

A well written summary statement but I get the blahs reading the majority of efforts made for the..., you used entree, which is the main course. Did you mean appetizers?

In Australia an entree is not a main course. It is a small course to lead in to the main.
Perhaps you call them appetisers. I will add a note to that effect. Thanks for reviewing. Always appreciated. I always hope my work will never be blah!

Hi Wendy,

so true. In the past people have tried to pigeonhole writers into certain genres and such like. I hate doing that. i rarely write in one specific genre. A lot of my own work crosses over and frequently it's not until the end when you discover what you've actually been reading about! lol

I'm not a big fan of constraints on the piece either. I find it stiffles too much and you can tell when a piece, poetry or prose has beeen hacked down to meet a count.

Many of the short forms of poetry aren't really poetry at all but a mere meeting of criteria.
It does take time & effort to perfect these but many don't appreciate that.

Good little piece and the analogy works well

All the best
G

Thank you for your astute review. Contests which seem to aim at reducing entry numbers, or limit freedom of expressing ideas are annoying and limiting to creativity. I agree re the very short ones - they are often just "pithy sayings". I appreciate your thoughtful review and encouragement.

What a great thought! Well written, of course.
Myself, I can eat the same meal 3X a day, and everyday until it's gone, then enjoy something else in the same manner. I know - weird. I would be delighted if critics could say, "My, he sure can build a nice box."
I wonder if I could construct a similar piece (I won't, though) of carpentry, or mechanics? Food, I'm sure works best in that it engages more of the senses.
Great job!
Best wishes.

Thank you Wayne. I had a friend a bit similar to you. She hate the same thing for breakfast every day (porridge), same thing for lunch ( a simple plain casserole, always the same) and the same for dinner - every day of the year, every year!
Ah with my writing, I offer up whatever I?ve made. If people don?t go for it, that?s okay as it?s bound to be different next time around! Lol. Thanks so much for reviewing.
